[00:00:00] Well, they need an original for the stupid little shows of the kind of the Jason's and we said

[00:00:04] No, then they call us again and they gave us 20 bucks and we rub them a song that says you can't care

[00:00:10] Sir, they gave us wrong money and they asked us really nice and we finally gave in and we said

[00:00:14] All right, I'll write you a song but it's gonna be a clone of a scripting legal song

[00:00:18] Then we heard a while ago so we rub them a jingle and it sounded really bad

[00:00:22] It was the bit with the jingle that they packaged every hand but the fun that can rip them in the mean of

[00:00:27] We're very non-calpy right in fringing so to wait tonight we're talking to New Junk City back on the podcast

[00:00:57] Yes, I'm a new single app. Yeah, really good a split right

[00:01:02] Well the splits not out yet but it's with another man, but yeah, they've released one single off of it

[00:01:07] Cool so far. It's real good

[00:01:09] What's up, dude? It's good to see you guys going. Yeah, you as well. What's in your pink water?

[00:01:17] Yeah

[00:01:19] I like the ultimate electrolytes those are my faves nice. Yeah

[00:01:24] You can show them Dakota's got them all yes product placement

[00:01:29] All right cool good for touring bands in need

[00:01:32] That'd be the sickest sponsor. I'll get liquid ivy or some shit

[00:01:36] This is called drums would ivy drumsticks and guitars. What about you who?

[00:01:42] That'd be a good thing to leave in the van bunch of hot ass you who

[00:01:47] I love you

[00:01:49] You're more of a nest quick guy myself

[00:01:53] Starter please sorry if that's not okay

[00:01:56] It's okay

[00:01:57] No, it's not

[00:02:02] You who's weird if you're used to if you're used to chocolate milk and then you have you who it's like you expected to be

[00:02:06] Chocolate milk but it's more like chocolate water

[00:02:08] Yeah

[00:02:09] Whether could it still delicious isn't isn't it not chocolate isn't like

[00:02:14] Carob or whatever

[00:02:16] I don't know what that is let's carry on

[00:02:18] Oh, I have no idea. Carob's like a

[00:02:21] I defeated

[00:02:24] Just so to like you that he would if I knew it was carob

[00:02:30] Yeah

[00:02:33] That's definitely something to look up now

[00:02:35] Yeah, the important stuff yeah

[00:02:40] I mean

[00:02:41] Last episode we we ended up talking about nothing but cereal for like an hour

[00:02:46] I'll give a friend that does cereal reviews

[00:02:49] Really the most he has good cereal reviews too. I'm one of those weirdos that if there's a aisle

[00:02:56] Of cereal right and there's a cereal. I haven't tried it's coming in the basket. Yeah, oh

[00:03:01] I'll take you ever consulted Wiggins about cereal no, but he did like a tournament and ours was like

[00:03:07] We're any one to one he has excellent taste in cereal

[00:03:11] I also appreciate that he reviews

[00:03:15] Not the packaging from a marketing standpoint, but like

[00:03:18] You know prior to cell phones

[00:03:21] World and I've that we remember in the morning before school

[00:03:24] You would just read the back of the cereal box for the thousand time and he'll rate the back of box content which I appreciate

[00:03:33] Have some good mazes uh-huh. Yeah, you guys like a YouTube channel or something

[00:03:37] No, he would never do that. It's just on his Instagram story so when he tries to do the cereal

[00:03:43] Okay, let's just for himself. Yeah, very much

[00:03:46] Yeah and his nearest and yours

[00:03:50] He was also doing for a long time you would have the worst animal of the day

[00:03:54] And so it's like violet or something it was like this

[00:03:58] Pitbull

[00:03:59] When it was violet was like dude today

[00:04:05] Violets of bad girl

[00:04:08] But she's adorable

[00:04:10] Well, what's your favorite cereals? Let's get this out of the way real quick

[00:04:14] Yeah

[00:04:15] Coco puffs

[00:04:20] So I'm thinking if I'm going sugar swell. I'm going captain crunch

[00:04:26] Any right. I don't care about crunch berries. It kind of tastes the same to me

[00:04:30] But captain crunch for the sugar swell

[00:04:33] nice really like

[00:04:35] Cinnamon toast crunch to CTC is a classic I'm a honey. I'm curious. I don't yeah

[00:04:40] I don't eat a lot of cereal now. I

[00:04:43] I eat granola like a fucking grown-up

[00:04:49] No, I eat like a baby. Have you ever had the cinnamon toast crunch like coffee creamer?

[00:04:55] No, but I did make a cinnamon toast crunch coffee cake recently like the Betty Crocker box mix

[00:05:00] It was fucking disgusting. I was so excited

[00:05:02] I thought it was gonna be really good because box cake is better than homemade cake box brownies are usually better than homemade brownies

[00:05:08] I thought this was going to be a home run. It's dog shit. It looks like the creamers. All right. I mean, it's basically just like pouring

[00:05:16] It's like sure right? Yeah, cereal milk into your coffee. Yeah, it's actually not bad. That sounds great

[00:05:21] I want that the Bailey's creamer is delicious too. I don't know if there's booze in it or not so I never got

[00:05:28] uh

[00:05:28] booze in coffee

[00:05:30] Yeah, like he bald on. Yeah, what it is for me though is like hot liquor

[00:05:36] Is gross

[00:05:38] Well, they're like it tastes fine right but like what it is is you bring the coffee mode to your face

[00:05:44] And then you get just that like attack of like whiskey hot whiskey in your face. I can't stay at it man

[00:05:50] Just put them side by side

[00:05:53] It's like just throwing it back up in your mouth. Oh god. I hate it

[00:06:00] Yeah, I could never I could I'm the same I could never do like hot

[00:06:03] I don't know coffee with liquor and it was weird to me

[00:06:06] Ones a fan of like a hot butter drum. Oh yeah hot butter drums all right though if you get it

[00:06:12] You fuck so I thought in my mind I was like hot butter drum

[00:06:16] It's a festive drink, right? It's probably got some like some mulling spices or something no

[00:06:22] It's fucking butter and it's rum and like that's pretty much all there is wood

[00:06:27] Wow, have you guys have you guys ever played Milwaukee

[00:06:31] No, it's on our list. We're hopefully playing there this year

[00:06:34] So I always talk this place up too so

[00:06:37] You get out to Milwaukee make a point to go to foundation tiki bar sounds like a weird place to go to a tiki bar

[00:06:43] Right Milwaukee since it's like cold and it's full of fucking drunks. Why wouldn't it be a good place to go?

[00:06:48] It's not in America

[00:06:50] But these these dudes

[00:06:51] There was like two of them that run the place and they they started as a novelty is like a joke

[00:06:56] But then they wanted to get serious

[00:06:58] And they actually like

[00:07:01] Months and months and months off and actually went around the Pacific Island chains and learned how to make like

[00:07:07] legit

[00:07:08] Tiki cocktails from like

[00:07:10] Right on yeah, and then I came back and it should do it but anyways they have a

[00:07:15] The most amazing buttered rum I've ever had my entire life

[00:07:21] Maybe I'll find a AA meeting that's really close to that

[00:07:24] All the wagon and run to a meeting real quick

[00:07:29] I mean it sounds like it might be worth it

[00:07:31] I think I'll skip that whole way

[00:07:37] Yeah, Jeff wasn't built like me

[00:07:40] I

[00:07:42] Love it built different but in a bad way like a really bad way. I love what we will

[00:07:47] How can you not the whole the whole place is like built off of music and

[00:07:51] And while drinking yeah, well, I just like that like every but a bar you go to is just like at the end of a neighborhood road

[00:07:59] Yeah, that bill lives upstairs

[00:08:01] And like it's just like the same dudes there every single day. I don't know there's something very

[00:08:07] Uh

[00:08:08] Wholesome about it. Oh like it

[00:08:10] Everything's cheap they all have pinball machines and generally they have free food

[00:08:14] Yeah sausages and hot dogs

[00:08:16] There's popcorn involved in a bar I'm in yeah, all day

[00:08:22] It I wouldn't even say just Atlanta but like the south has kind of trash bar culture in that regard

[00:08:27] Like the Midwest knows what the fuck is up just like they dive bars the way the northeast does diners

[00:08:33] Yeah

[00:08:34] That's that was my favorite part of touring was

[00:08:37] Midwest bars and going into see who had like pickled eggs behind the counter

[00:08:43] And Harley and it's like ones to look like they're in this is actually

[00:08:51] Also act as liquor stores so like you'll go into a bar and all the bottles behind the bars have price tags

[00:08:59] Oh, that

[00:09:02] I played

[00:09:04] My first touring experience has a big asterisk next to it and I generally don't consider it like a real tour

[00:09:09] So I say the first time I went on tours with Jeff's old band bad mammals

[00:09:14] I was just filling in and we went to Chicago. I got fucking alcohol poisoning

[00:09:18] Trying to hang with these fools, but we went to we went to a bar that was a liquor store

[00:09:23] That's right. Yeah

[00:09:25] Justin more some ladies hat. They're on the shrimp on the barbie

[00:09:28] Hmm

[00:09:29] Did you have my lord when you were there? Of course. Yeah

[00:09:33] I had plenty of times. Yeah

[00:09:36] This was in probably my most debaturist days

[00:09:40] So anything you put in front of me I was drinking or snort or you know

[00:09:47] Smoking whatever

[00:09:49] Snorted the mullort

[00:09:51] Yeah

[00:09:55] Yeah, one of the bars we played had a drink called the mullort orita and you know

[00:10:01] List

[00:10:02] We list like the drink and then you usually put the ingredients under it price whatever

[00:10:06] But instead of any ingredients to just said because fuck you that's why

[00:10:10] Have you have you guys ever seen the commercial that mullort made for themselves?

[00:10:14] Uh, it's hilarious. It's like four and a half minutes long

[00:10:17] It it may be the best commercial of all time

[00:10:20] You watch it at some point or I'll I'll send you guys a link to it

[00:10:25] It's so recaptured. It's easily the foulest liquor that had a million times

[00:10:34] With

[00:10:36] It's like I know this is bad. I know about our min Chicago

[00:10:40] Let's go let's party if I put malort and buy you in front of you which one you drink? Oh, malort

[00:10:46] Buy you is blue cheese

[00:10:47] Oh, that's gross

[00:10:51] That's it's foul

[00:10:54] Did you guys see that this past year

[00:10:56] 2023 around uh

[00:10:57] Like Thanksgiving time malort actually put out a pumpkin spice malort

[00:11:03] That has to make it worse

[00:11:06] I don't think there's any it's

[00:11:09] The only thing I've had worse than malort

[00:11:12] was

[00:11:14] So malort is made with warm wood is what gives it that like accurate back of the throat pupal name

[00:11:20] um

[00:11:21] And the only saving grace is that it's not particularly well-made. So it's not like a really great

[00:11:28] um

[00:11:29] Expression of the ingredients and we had this Italian Amaro called Alte Verde that was like

[00:11:36] It it was like malort had been distilled 1000 times

[00:11:40] It was just pure

[00:11:42] Fucking warm wood and that was what I used to give you know the trash ass bar gas sip, you know

[00:11:48] Oh real man. I drink hard stuff

[00:11:53] Here case this buddy

[00:11:56] We're just straight like citric acid maloch acid whatever but that's bad re acid yeah motor oil any acid

[00:12:01] Yeah, the bar clothes are usually known as wild lst

[00:12:05] What what was it called again?

[00:12:07] What was what called the liquor you're just talking about

[00:12:10] Amaro Alte Verde

[00:12:12] Amaro Alte Verde

[00:12:14] It sounds so pretty now I'm interested

[00:12:17] Well, it's like alpine herbal cure

[00:12:20] Sounds great death now would it taste like

[00:12:22] I have something like that

[00:12:27] Oh no yeah straight up yeah the witch straight is good. That's kind of sweet

[00:12:33] Has like some some honey suckled to it that looks like the juicets and the pickles in a bag at the gas station

[00:12:40] The big mom was yeah

[00:12:43] The mom was back there like this proper this by some

[00:12:47] Big papa got myself

[00:12:50] Okay

[00:12:52] I think all that's like straggas and all that kind of stuff just tastes like perfume

[00:12:57] I like it. Yeah, it tastes like Christmas trees

[00:13:00] Yeah, I guess pine trees. That's how you know you're fancy

[00:13:04] And when you start states like perfume you drink your perfume

[00:13:10] All right you guys got a split coming out correct

[00:13:14] Yeah

[00:13:15] Yes, that's what you guys chat about it

[00:13:19] It's been a long time yeah, so we

[00:13:22] We recorded two of the songs from it. So let me rewind a little bit

[00:13:26] It's a split teninch with our friends Ruddurkin

[00:13:31] It's coming out on say 10 records on March 8th at sport tracks from each band

[00:13:37] So our tracks two of them we recorded a immediately following

[00:13:43] Bag of promise like literally we recorded the last notes of that and we sat for about an hour and eight some fluff

[00:13:49] And then I was like all right

[00:13:50] Let's do these two songs because it was originally going to be split seven inch

[00:13:54] But then you know

[00:13:56] It's hard to find anybody to put out records in general let alone a seven inch

[00:14:00] But our friend Adam was like if you do two more songs each band, I'll do it as a teninch

[00:14:04] So that's kind of

[00:14:07] I'm the impetus for it being a ten inch but um

[00:14:11] Yeah, two of the songs are frozen will basically the tail end of the bag of promise session

[00:14:15] They were written completely separately. They're not like b-sides

[00:14:18] There's total separatenity and the other two are the first songs that our current bass player Mason is on

[00:14:24] We're pretty excited

[00:14:27] Uh he and my company said fuck you guys

[00:14:30] Yeah

[00:14:32] Say uh say ten records just put out another really fucking great record by some friends of ours

[00:14:38] Uh band called 40 reps

[00:14:41] Yep, yep. They're from Richmond right? Yes

[00:14:44] Yeah, they're they're fucking they're rad man like

[00:14:48] They um they played one of our last shows that we put on and uh and I got more people coming up to me

[00:14:55] about them saying good things and I have quite a while

[00:14:59] about any band, which was really cool.

[00:15:01] It's cool to see new bands doing stuff like that.

[00:15:03] Yeah, Adam was hyping them up a couple months ago.

[00:15:06] He's got a busy calendar of stuff to do, for sure.

[00:15:13] All those green jelly records he's shipping up.

[00:15:15] Yeah, well, that, like I know the world is popping off.

[00:15:20] Yeah, so he's a busy person, but there's a lot

[00:15:24] of good stuff on say 10 and I've known Adam for probably

[00:15:27] over a decade now.

[00:15:28] So glad that the records coming out.

[00:15:32] Yeah, hell yeah.

[00:15:33] Well, friends since we're on that topic,

[00:15:36] you guys also did a little run not too long ago.

[00:15:39] Was some other good friends of mine?

[00:15:41] American television?

[00:15:43] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:15:44] Those digitally hearts.

[00:15:46] Although I now, Jared was still with them then, right?

[00:15:51] Yep, he no longer with us.

[00:15:53] He played, I think the last his last shows with them

[00:15:57] because we did our little John and I think June of last year.

[00:16:01] And then he played August or something.

[00:16:03] He played the release show and that was his farewell show,

[00:16:05] I think, because he's in Ohio now.

[00:16:07] God rest his whole.

[00:16:10] Yeah, their new league of tires actually is like one

[00:16:13] of my like long time best friends on the face of the planet,

[00:16:17] which is crazy just happened that way.

[00:16:19] So it was pretty cool.

[00:16:21] But yeah, those dudes rule and I was stoked to see you guys

[00:16:24] go out and do a little run together because.

[00:16:26] Yeah, it was fun.

[00:16:28] Glad that it worked out.

[00:16:29] We tried to do a couple different things

[00:16:31] that it never fully panned out.

[00:16:33] But yeah, we did Durham, Charleston and Atlanta.

[00:16:37] So a little weekend, yeah, good time.

[00:16:40] Our band didn't have AC at the time.

[00:16:43] So that was not fun.

[00:16:45] It was a good warm up for the summer tour we did in it.

[00:16:49] Yeah.

[00:16:52] Did it still not have AC at the time?

[00:16:54] It did for the first half.

[00:16:59] We were all a little grumpy by the time we got into like Ohio.

[00:17:02] It gave out slowly enough that I think I was just like,

[00:17:06] oh, it's you know, it's just fucking hot out, right?

[00:17:09] Like they were in a hard time.

[00:17:10] It's a can.

[00:17:11] It's 95 degrees.

[00:17:12] But like second to last day, we were all like,

[00:17:15] so there's not fucking working it all, right?

[00:17:17] Yeah, just basically it would blow cold for like 10 seconds.

[00:17:21] And then when you went up a hill, which is all Kentucky is,

[00:17:24] it would blast heat all over the front for 30 seconds.

[00:17:29] And as soon as he got over the hill,

[00:17:30] it would spray a little bit of cool air.

[00:17:32] It was actually only his room temp air.

[00:17:34] But not enough to cool down a giant metal death trap.

[00:17:39] What kind of van is it?

[00:17:40] It's a 2000 Dodge Ram 3500.

[00:17:45] Oh man, still kicking.

[00:17:46] It's got a big donk on the end.

[00:17:49] It's got the extended rum for all of our gear.

[00:17:52] But yeah, it's still kicking somehow.

[00:17:53] It was an old church van.

[00:17:55] It has like a Bible verse in Spanish on the back.

[00:17:57] And it's maroon.

[00:17:59] So it kind of looks like a giant hot dog.

[00:18:01] So we named her Salchicha, which is Spanish for hot dog.

[00:18:05] Nice.

[00:18:08] I'm just trusting him and that I haven't double checked it.

[00:18:11] This sausage.

[00:18:12] All right, I trust you.

[00:18:15] I'm minored in Spanish college.

[00:18:18] I taught Spanish.

[00:18:19] That's right.

[00:18:20] It's right.

[00:18:23] What fun is wrong?

[00:18:26] You're wrong.

[00:18:28] Well, would you guys be in do us playing that first single on here?

[00:18:32] Yeah, I got it.

[00:18:33] Cool.

[00:18:34] Cleveland, right?

[00:18:35] Yeah, Cleveland.

[00:18:37] Great song.

[00:18:38] Thanks.

[00:18:39] Yeah, talk about the song.

[00:18:40] Honestly, I don't have a ton to say

[00:18:44] about it.

[00:18:45] It came out really quick and easy.

[00:18:49] I think it's a metamusel and just work.

[00:18:52] Yeah, high fiber diet.

[00:18:56] Honestly, all the songs on this split

[00:18:59] were just like, we're just generally not the case for us.

[00:19:02] We usually kick stuff around for a while at practice

[00:19:06] before we're like, OK, this feels good.

[00:19:08] And then it kind of settles in the studio.

[00:19:11] But yeah, I brought it in.

[00:19:13] I think we wrote it in a practice.

[00:19:16] Like all of it, too.

[00:19:16] And it's pretty good parts.

[00:19:18] I usually have like a full song structure.

[00:19:20] And then I kind of have to cobble some lyrics together.

[00:19:25] I might have a verse or a chorus.

[00:19:27] And then once we have recording time booked and like,

[00:19:30] shit, I have to finish the lyrics.

[00:19:32] Or we would be, oh yeah, we're like that part sucks.

[00:19:35] Yeah.

[00:19:37] Don't yell that.

[00:19:40] I think that was also kind of goal going into this record

[00:19:43] in general was like, I caught just like Joyce Manor syndrome

[00:19:47] where it's like, man half just give me like a hook

[00:19:50] and a couple verses.

[00:19:52] And let's like try our attempt at that.

[00:19:56] Like don't overthink it almost to a fault.

[00:20:00] And just like, let's write the first thing

[00:20:02] that comes to our head and just write

[00:20:03] like a couple two minute pop songs.

[00:20:06] And I feel like those three and the four are different.

[00:20:10] And then one really long one.

[00:20:11] Yeah, because we were coming out of like we'd had

[00:20:14] beg a promise like three quarters the way recorded

[00:20:17] before this split even like the idea that it came about.

[00:20:19] And Jeff was like, you know,

[00:20:21] we're trying to kick around some ideas

[00:20:22] even if he had any riffs and Jeff texted our group

[00:20:24] throughout it was like two minute punk song.

[00:20:26] Don't overthink it.

[00:20:27] Let's do it.

[00:20:28] And then yeah, John and I came in with a couple riffs.

[00:20:30] And that's sort of how the whole thing came about.

[00:20:32] But the song Cleveland specifically,

[00:20:34] yeah, it was just you brought it in one practice

[00:20:36] and literally we played through,

[00:20:39] it's not an incredibly difficult song.

[00:20:41] We played through it a couple times

[00:20:43] and really all of it fell into place

[00:20:44] and you know the next practice where like,

[00:20:46] all right, let's see like what we can do to this one.

[00:20:48] It's this is exceedingly simple.

[00:20:50] I mean, the like the intro, the verse and the chorus

[00:20:53] are all the same chords played in the same order.

[00:20:56] The only real difference is you know

[00:20:58] the drums and kind of like the vocal cadence.

[00:21:03] But sometimes it happens like that

[00:21:04] and it's fucking great when it does too.

[00:21:06] Cause yeah, yeah.

[00:21:07] Sometimes I would say most of the time

[00:21:10] is the ones that come easy as sort of the ones that are the best.

[00:21:34] I've got friends who are getting sober,

[00:21:41] the other half are getting worse.

[00:21:44] I'm stuck right here in the middle.

[00:21:47] I mean why you're the wind to bring sweeping change?

[00:21:52] So I don't have to remain.

[00:21:55] And I think this is an arrogant little shit

[00:22:00] that just can't stand the night you're all working.

[00:22:03] It's not there, you just throw around your way.

[00:22:08] Say we're never gonna change.

[00:22:14] Cause I have watched this dance for over the years

[00:22:19] in something I do really hate.

[00:22:33] Oh, you're all right.

[00:22:38] I'm a young.

[00:22:41] You're a little old.

[00:22:44] That I'll never go into.

[00:22:48] Start up again.

[00:22:50] Yeah, you give it your chest.

[00:22:52] You're confused to feel it's true.

[00:22:56] Hard and stiff.

[00:22:58] You're not going to be a little bit older.

[00:23:01] Hard and stiff through your bedroom here

[00:23:06] This way it's gone down to

[00:23:08] It's not fair, you just don't run away

[00:23:13] Say you're never gonna change

[00:23:19] Cause I've watched this dance for over a year

[00:23:24] And it's something I still don't hate to say

[00:23:30] It's something I still don't hate to say

[00:23:37] It's something I still don't hate to say

[00:23:46] It's the ones that you like, I feel like really

[00:23:50] You're on that and those ones up by the end of time

[00:23:54] They're done and you're like, I don't like this again

[00:23:56] That's how the next, that's how our next bowling

[00:23:58] is gonna be, we're really struggling with

[00:24:00] I don't know, that's like in the same regard though

[00:24:02] Like redoing sold-in bunches for a full band was a slog

[00:24:06] But I'm really happy without it turned out

[00:24:08] But yeah, definitely if there's something you're trying to force

[00:24:11] Like just smush something in like the puzzle piece

[00:24:13] That you lost and you're like this one fits

[00:24:15] You're using the slide

[00:24:17] Yeah, I think Cleveland, that song came together

[00:24:20] Like really quickly

[00:24:21] We actually like wrote it and we had a show

[00:24:23] I think like two or three weeks later

[00:24:24] And we're like, you don't play it, fuck it

[00:24:26] Like we never do that and we played it

[00:24:28] And it didn't come out for two more years

[00:24:32] Really, let's not play that one again until it's out

[00:24:34] I think that was, it was also

[00:24:37] It's not hard to figure out, you know, lyrically

[00:24:41] It was the last song I wrote before I quit drinking

[00:24:44] So it's like basically about that

[00:24:47] To press, ask, drunk

[00:24:50] Just cool

[00:24:51] Yeah

[00:24:52] No, I'm just a depressed guy who doesn't drink anymore

[00:24:55] So cool

[00:24:57] So you guys are good at tour, you said?

[00:24:59] I was in Europe in less than two weeks

[00:25:03] Yeah, March 17th is the first date in Cologne

[00:25:07] Oh hell yeah

[00:25:09] Yeah, we've never been there

[00:25:10] So we toured Europe once before in 2019

[00:25:15] None of us had ever toured Europe before as far as I know

[00:25:19] And it was super fun

[00:25:21] It was one of those like

[00:25:23] I hadn't been in the band for that long at that point

[00:25:27] And yeah, it was a very nice treat

[00:25:31] I would say very humbling

[00:25:33] And like one of the most gratifying things you can do as a band

[00:25:36] Is go somewhere as far away as possible from your home

[00:25:39] And then one person knows your song

[00:25:41] Yeah

[00:25:42] Which was the case at most shows

[00:25:43] There was like one dude there

[00:25:45] It was like you were better on the record but it was fine

[00:25:49] I mean even more than the shows

[00:25:51] So that's how we kind of became homies with the Bong Mountain crew

[00:25:58] We had played with them once before in Grand Rapids

[00:26:01] I think we played a house show with them

[00:26:03] And then this band, The Run Up

[00:26:07] Who unfortunately broke up

[00:26:10] The broke up

[00:26:12] They were killer

[00:26:13] But they just asked us

[00:26:15] They were from the UK

[00:26:17] And they toured, there's like pre-Brexit

[00:26:19] They toured the EU all the time

[00:26:21] And they just hit us up and they were like hey we like your record

[00:26:23] Do you want to just like

[00:26:25] Just show up

[00:26:27] You can use our gear

[00:26:28] Like literally I didn't even

[00:26:30] I think I brought a mic and a distortion pedal with me

[00:26:33] And like I set a strings

[00:26:34] And that was it

[00:26:35] We just showed up and we rented a car

[00:26:37] And they took care of everything

[00:26:40] Which is pretty incredible to do for a bunch of fucking strangers

[00:26:43] And so as you can imagine

[00:26:45] They are like the sweetest people

[00:26:47] You could ever meet

[00:26:49] Bong Mountain also incredible sweethearts

[00:26:52] Yeah

[00:26:53] The funniest people you could ever meet

[00:26:55] Especially meeting them in Europe

[00:26:57] Yeah, Chris with no shoes

[00:26:59] Yeah if you think of a band called Bong Mountain

[00:27:01] It's exactly what you think

[00:27:03] I mean that in the best way possible

[00:27:07] How could you be called Bong Mountain

[00:27:10] And not be

[00:27:11] And not be you know

[00:27:13] They have a giant paper mache Bong

[00:27:15] It has a smoke machine built inside of it

[00:27:19] That they hang out at special shows

[00:27:21] I think they added it fast

[00:27:23] Maybe not last year before

[00:27:25] And they make everybody start chanting

[00:27:27] We eat is tight

[00:27:29] We eat is tight

[00:27:31] But yeah just kind of experiencing that

[00:27:33] Punk touring culture

[00:27:35] And Europe was eye opening

[00:27:38] And like the best way possible

[00:27:40] Because you've always heard like

[00:27:42] Oh they treat you different over there

[00:27:44] Like it's really nice

[00:27:46] And truly like every night

[00:27:48] It didn't matter how small the show was

[00:27:50] How big the show was

[00:27:52] There was a meal for you

[00:27:54] There was a place to stay

[00:27:56] And like no one was mad at you

[00:27:58] We put a show

[00:28:00] In like a 300 plus person venue

[00:28:02] In Akhen, Germany called the music bunker

[00:28:04] It was a repurposed air raid bunker

[00:28:06] Like running the places the manager

[00:28:08] He was like all right

[00:28:10] I had fun so I will give you a bonus

[00:28:12] And here's your hotel address

[00:28:14] And here's an extra meal

[00:28:16] And do you want a flat of beer

[00:28:18] Like if that happened in the states

[00:28:20] It'd be like yo you owe us money

[00:28:22] You never playing here again

[00:28:24] And I slapped fires on your band

[00:28:26] But over there it was totally cool

[00:28:28] So it's going to be exciting to go back

[00:28:30] And Daniel we played in the run up

[00:28:32] Is going to be driving us

[00:28:34] We're playing with his other band in the UK

[00:28:36] Each of the shows

[00:28:38] So we're still getting to kick it with the buds

[00:28:40] But we're playing all new cities this time

[00:28:42] I think the only repeat is Hamburg

[00:28:44] Oh, it's Hamburg and Hanover

[00:28:46] Or two repeats

[00:28:48] And everything else is new

[00:28:50] So we'll see how it goes

[00:28:52] Yeah, Manchester punk fest at the very end of it too

[00:28:54] Which I'm really looking forward to

[00:28:56] Yeah, that's probably going to be rad as fuck

[00:28:58] Yeah, I want to see pistachio

[00:29:00] And sort of like that I've never seen them

[00:29:02] Just looking up to see how they're going to be

[00:29:04] I don't know if I've told you guys

[00:29:06] This is the longest

[00:29:08] Longest four new songs ever done

[00:29:10] I think

[00:29:12] Second longest tour I've ever been on

[00:29:14] Cool

[00:29:16] Yeah

[00:29:18] And we're going with it

[00:29:20] With our buds record Tyler

[00:29:22] Who are all Superman Atlanta

[00:29:24] They just put out a new record recently

[00:29:26] On smart punk

[00:29:28] Smart punk

[00:29:30] Nice. That's who American television is with. Actually. Yeah.

[00:29:31] We're cleaning up all the AF bands. Yeah, probably.

[00:29:35] Not just what to say it

[00:29:37] I'll ask

[00:29:39] Okay

[00:29:41] Oh no, you can say that

[00:29:43] Oh, yeah. We've talked about it on here a whole bunch of things

[00:29:45] Yeah, I got to be just fuck that dude

[00:29:47] Yeah, okay. We've asked you guys

[00:29:49] The three questions that we ask everybody

[00:29:51] I believe

[00:29:53] Well, not everybody

[00:29:55] Yeah, you weren't there

[00:29:57] Let her rip

[00:29:59] Oh, yeah

[00:30:01] Yeah, that is one of them. Yeah

[00:30:03] That's the time

[00:30:05] Who is the fuck with people you want to see

[00:30:07] Die on Mount Africa

[00:30:09] You

[00:30:11] Am I

[00:30:13] Yeah

[00:30:15] All right

[00:30:17] If you were on death row, would your final meal be

[00:30:19] Oh easy, peasy lemon

[00:30:21] Squeezing on my favorite dish

[00:30:23] Portillo's

[00:30:25] I want fries

[00:30:27] Chicago hot dog and a Chicago beef sandwich

[00:30:31] Done deal

[00:30:33] You might just

[00:30:35] I grew up in Chicago

[00:30:37] Yeah, okay

[00:30:39] Is it a Chicago beef sandwich and open face? Is that what it is or

[00:30:41] Is it an open face beef sandwich? The Chicago beef sandwich

[00:30:43] No, it's like

[00:30:45] Think of like kind of like a French dip

[00:30:47] It's pretty sweet

[00:30:49] But not French

[00:30:51] Yeah, I see in sweet peppers

[00:30:53] It's a thing and dunk the whole thing

[00:30:55] Yeah, there she's on

[00:30:57] And you can dunk the whole thing

[00:30:59] And it's just this like soggy mound of meat

[00:31:01] I don't know

[00:31:03] It's the most things in the whole entire world

[00:31:05] And there's like

[00:31:07] A million places

[00:31:09] There's a place called Mr. Beef in Chicago

[00:31:11] And that's probably like better than Portillo's

[00:31:13] Portillo's is like

[00:31:15] The in and out of Chicago

[00:31:17] Right, it's like the local

[00:31:19] And so a lot of Chicago people would be like

[00:31:21] No, that's not where you go get Chicago beef

[00:31:23] But that's what I'm nostalgic for

[00:31:25] Like from suburbs

[00:31:27] I don't want Mr. Beef

[00:31:29] Even if it's technically better

[00:31:31] I want Portillo's

[00:31:33] I want that

[00:31:35] Hey, you gotta have your spots

[00:31:37] Yeah, man

[00:31:39] We've like specifically gone out of the way to get Portillo's for Jeff

[00:31:41] Every time we're in Chicago

[00:31:43] And it always winds up under the seat

[00:31:45] In the van for a few days

[00:31:47] And it's an honor

[00:31:49] Is it of an antifridge, depending on the time

[00:31:51] That's not ready

[00:31:53] Box

[00:31:55] Yeah, I've never been to Portillo's

[00:31:57] My daughter's roommate is from Chicago

[00:31:59] And she went to go visit her

[00:32:01] During the summer last year

[00:32:03] And she took her there

[00:32:05] She said it was awesome

[00:32:07] Did you cake shakes?

[00:32:09] Yeah, cake shake

[00:32:11] You gotta get a chocolate cake shake

[00:32:13] It's like literally a vanilla milkshake

[00:32:15] It's like a bulletin

[00:32:17] Oh, that's fucking awesome

[00:32:19] Mash it up

[00:32:21] So good, fucked up

[00:32:23] Yeah, it's awesome

[00:32:25] Nothing is good for you there

[00:32:27] Drink your cake

[00:32:29] Drink your cake

[00:32:31] Look what five cake

[00:32:33] Chicago deep, there's Chicago beef sandwiches

[00:32:35] Literally just dunked in gravy

[00:32:37] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[00:32:39] And then pot dogs

[00:32:41] Is it the mad in somebody eating this

[00:32:43] In your van?

[00:32:44] I have no really much lunch

[00:32:46] I know what I'm about

[00:32:48] How long has it been under the seat at this point?

[00:32:52] Hey, shit man

[00:32:54] It was

[00:32:56] Not even a day

[00:32:58] We got it that afternoon

[00:33:00] New eight in the next morning for hangover

[00:33:02] It is too much to eat in one sitting

[00:33:04] But since we're only there one sort of way

[00:33:06] Yeah, well that's the thing like you want to get all of it

[00:33:08] We're not stopping again

[00:33:10] So you gotta get it all

[00:33:12] You gotta cheeseburger

[00:33:14] Or Chicago hot dog

[00:33:16] Frys

[00:33:18] And a full Italian beef sandwich

[00:33:20] I don't think you got to shake that time

[00:33:22] I think you gotta shake that time

[00:33:24] Bought and drink though

[00:33:26] Big old scrap cut

[00:33:28] You go fries and rings or just fries

[00:33:30] I think I just went fries

[00:33:32] That was your mistake

[00:33:34] They also do cheese fries

[00:33:36] Oh, it's that like that

[00:33:38] You don't know if that's a good or a bad

[00:33:40] Because I'm just so

[00:33:42] Oh, it's that like orange sauce

[00:33:44] You know the nacho chia

[00:33:46] Yeah, the canned nacho

[00:33:48] Cheese is my shit

[00:33:50] I love that stuff

[00:33:52] Okay, swim means and baseball games

[00:33:54] Kid

[00:33:56] Just put it in my pockets

[00:33:58] Jumping

[00:34:00] All right second question is now that you have been killed on death row

[00:34:04] One of the things they do is they could take your ashes

[00:34:06] And form it into a vinyl record of your choice

[00:34:08] So if you're going to have your ashes

[00:34:10] Eternalyzed

[00:34:12] In an album which album would you pick

[00:34:14] That's it has to be one that exists

[00:34:16] I want to want it to be like a really happy record

[00:34:20] Because it's like

[00:34:22] It's kind of a bummer thing right

[00:34:24] Or at least maybe it's really exciting

[00:34:26] But I died

[00:34:28] Why was I known that throw

[00:34:30] Maybe there's three right

[00:34:32] What did you do?

[00:34:34] What did I do?

[00:34:36] Okay, I'm probably over thinking this

[00:34:38] I want to say like a fields of the nephilim record

[00:34:40] Off the top of my head

[00:34:42] Like a crazy like 80s UK

[00:34:44] Goff underground record

[00:34:46] That seems very fitting

[00:34:48] I'm grand. I thought for sure you were going to say arrivals

[00:34:52] Oh yeah

[00:34:54] I don't know

[00:34:56] Like

[00:34:58] I'm going to go maybe

[00:35:00] I'll do a trio record

[00:35:02] Maybe I'll do goddamit

[00:35:04] Yeah

[00:35:06] It's perfectly both a little bit gothic

[00:35:08] And like pago

[00:35:10] A little bit Chicago very formative for me

[00:35:12] There are bad songs on that record

[00:35:14] It's far from a perfect

[00:35:16] It's probably not even my favorite ophthalmantria record

[00:35:18] It's still great though

[00:35:20] Yeah, it's very formative to me

[00:35:22] It's very I would say it's very

[00:35:24] Showing of the person that I am and happy

[00:35:26] Do you remember your answer to that question?

[00:35:28] Talk

[00:35:30] No, I'm going to get there. I can really

[00:35:32] You guys can go again if you want

[00:35:34] I know

[00:35:36] No

[00:35:38] I already had the perfect answer once

[00:35:40] I don't want you guys a text

[00:35:42] We're going to be double LP compilation

[00:35:46] It'll be my solo record

[00:35:48] Because I will be buried with a lot of copies

[00:35:50] Of those

[00:35:52] My little Bernal

[00:35:54] Make another one

[00:35:56] All right who's on your mat rush more of punk rock?

[00:35:58] You get five people because you get a crazy horse too

[00:36:00] So

[00:36:02] And people not not bands

[00:36:04] All right, I'll stay on them. I'll say skeba

[00:36:06] Again, just like trio is a really

[00:36:08] formative band for with her without hair

[00:36:10] Oh

[00:36:12] We got to get home like when he was like heavy black eyeliner

[00:36:16] And then like the almost widows peak

[00:36:18] But you didn't have enough

[00:36:22] Oh yeah

[00:36:24] And his got band that he did heavens

[00:36:26] Yeah, like heaven's air a skeba

[00:36:28] Oh

[00:36:30] So that tickled me I'm sorry

[00:36:32] I'll probably this I feel like I'm like right

[00:36:36] Like right on the money here but ea maca

[00:36:45] I think because you're edge

[00:36:48] I'm not I'm not going to bit burger right now but

[00:36:52] He kind of

[00:36:54] Made the scene a better place. I think there especially how the scene was being formed in LA

[00:37:00] Where it was very very violent very very jockey bullshit you know and

[00:37:06] Instead of letting that happen you know and same in London and UK and same in New York

[00:37:12] But like

[00:37:14] Instead he was like no why instead of making this just some macho bullshit

[00:37:20] Why don't we make this into something better like a community

[00:37:24] And like he's very instrumental on that and I think

[00:37:28] That's the side of punk rock that is always attracted me. I've never been like who's this nervous

[00:37:34] Who's this Ian McKay?

[00:37:36] I don't know. He plays called Legacy

[00:37:38] And anyways

[00:37:40] Buzzie G. Buzzie G either

[00:37:42] Or go go band from T.C.

[00:37:46] But yeah, it's like the best parts of why what attracted me to punk rock is really comes from

[00:37:54] If you follow it all the way down it comes from that guy's mouth. And I'm a huge Fugazin fan

[00:37:58] I've never been in the biggest minor threat fan. I think

[00:38:02] For what it is just like really angry

[00:38:06] Fast. Oh, I love it for what it is especially for how young they were but like Fugazie

[00:38:11] What's always attracted me to punk rock has always been like

[00:38:14] Okay, punk rocks this thing. What can you do with it? And Fugazie was always a really good example of that

[00:38:20] Let's use punk rock more as a tool as opposed to like

[00:38:24] This all defining what we are what we have and like what kind of music we make

[00:38:30] So yeah, I'll say Ian McKay sorry that was a long story

[00:38:34] No, that's not good. Fugazie is one of those bands that it's hard to not be a fan of if you're

[00:38:40] Just as a human.

[00:38:42] Right? Like the very first record like the argument might be my favorite one you know I

[00:38:48] I am I like the later records.

[00:38:52] Well, and then like I'll listen to like

[00:38:54] Like in on the kill takeer and I'll be like this is my favorite

[00:38:58] And then I was into like a different one and then it my favorite changes all the time and that band is just unbelievable

[00:39:05] You hear something a little bit different than the fact that it was just like

[00:39:08] Gipson SG

[00:39:10] Marshall's dad watch

[00:39:12] There's the

[00:39:14] Like an instrument yeah where he's like making his pickups like chirp like a fucking bird

[00:39:20] And I

[00:39:22] Absolutely. It did the same thing to me at

[00:39:25] 37 years old that it did to me at 17 years old when I saw it

[00:39:29] I was like this is the fucking coolest. Yeah, super special

[00:39:32] I love instrument great great record by the way since you brought it up there

[00:39:37] Love it. Super cool

[00:39:39] Okay, so I said

[00:39:41] Skiiba I said heaven Sarah Skiiba excuse me

[00:39:45] This doesn't look better carved in a stone yeah

[00:39:49] Argument argument Aaron McKay

[00:39:53] So you can be in yeah, so she being a macaque

[00:39:57] Okay

[00:39:58] I'd probably go this is a little bit of a maybe a little different one but Mike Park from

[00:40:05] The

[00:40:07] I'm not really a big scog I at all but Jeff Skaksen

[00:40:15] A she man records again I grew up in Chicago a huge hotline trio and

[00:40:20] Lawrence Arms fan grown up

[00:40:22] And he was just signing a lot of Chicago bands and like every Chicago

[00:40:28] And in Chicago getting into punk rock those were bigger than no effects or penny wise

[00:40:33] Or any of that like single file by the honor system

[00:40:37] I thought the honor system lived in mansions like

[00:40:40] You know, I guess

[00:40:42] The greatest record of all time. Surely the people who created it made

[00:40:46] Bajillion's

[00:40:49] I see the guy from the honor system like crack can be

[00:40:53] Or set the venue around about to plan was like

[00:40:55] It didn't work out for the way

[00:40:57] But yeah, he was he's also a good example just like what I want out of punk rock like yeah sense of community

[00:41:06] Kind of taking off where they live or more left off and look out and making that Bay Area scene still very relevant

[00:41:14] Very important and he continues that to this day if you look at the roster now a lot of it is just Bay Area bands

[00:41:19] Yeah, like kind of keeping it local and trying to make it work for regular people dude

[00:41:26] Dude built a small empire out of his mom's garage. Yeah, that's real

[00:41:29] We have to go our west coast tour

[00:41:31] Dakota's tight with that guy

[00:41:34] And I got to beat him out

[00:41:36] I was like

[00:41:37] You was just getting over COVID and was packing records

[00:41:42] And he was like you guys want some free shit

[00:41:45] We're like yes, please

[00:41:47] That's awesome

[00:41:49] Yeah, he's an important figure for me so that was about three I get two more

[00:41:53] Yeah, obviously I'm on there. Yeah

[00:41:55] Yeah

[00:41:57] One more

[00:41:59] I'll go maybe Chris Hannah

[00:42:01] Pop propaganda

[00:42:03] That's one of those bands where they just don't miss man like every single one of their records

[00:42:09] Like even like I'm not as big of a fan of like how to clean everything but then I listen to like anti-manifesto and like

[00:42:16] Hate myths mussel etiquette that's wrong. I think that's how yeah, that's my favorite albums of all time

[00:42:23] So

[00:42:25] Sneaky because I'm like oh there's just pop-ups on them like they're doing stuff

[00:42:29] It's cool

[00:42:30] And then I think the best one they put out though was victory lap like out of their giant huge catalog of records

[00:42:35] Good one. How how is victory lap this brand new one the best one but there's so many good jammer's supporting cast is really fucking good too

[00:42:45] Yeah, I didn't like the one in between those

[00:42:49] Fail

[00:42:51] Fail states yeah, I was like thinking because supporting cast was so good

[00:42:55] I was like failed states it's still great and I'm not trying to down

[00:42:59] Yeah, I was like okay, they're on their way out like finally after 18 great records are finally starting to start to slow down and then victory lap comes out

[00:43:09] I was like no I was wrong

[00:43:11] It's I think that was pretty much the consensus amongst like most their fans

[00:43:15] I think because I mean I know I feel the same way but I've talked with a lot of other people who feel the same way too

[00:43:19] But whatever yeah victory lap amazing

[00:43:21] A couple of examples of that recently too like the newest Sam I am record is way better than so good right to be the new alcohol and trio record is way better than it has to be

[00:43:33] And like I'm just like dang old punk rock guys still killing it

[00:43:37] The new it's weird. This is this might be a weird thing to say but like the new alcohol and trio record sounds like RKL slowed down

[00:43:45] Okay, really yeah musically at least not not vocally obviously yeah

[00:43:50] But musically yeah listen to RKL and listen to new alcohol and trio album and tell me it's not just RKL slowed down

[00:43:57] I'm gonna have to do that. I'm excited about new RKL though with Tony

[00:44:01] Hell yeah

[00:44:03] I'm gonna be invisible

[00:44:05] I think that should be fun

[00:44:07] Yeah, I'm flying out the LA to see them on May 5th

[00:44:09] Oh cool

[00:44:11] Yeah

[00:44:12] I won't be there

[00:44:14] I like our scale but not enough to fly to LA

[00:44:16] Well my brother my brother lives in LA so I'm it's like a visit to see him slash C RKL

[00:44:22] Rich kids on LSD

[00:44:24] They're like I don't know any lag wagon

[00:44:26] Josh Brolett weirdly was in that band for like kind of

[00:44:32] Kind of

[00:44:34] Or like maybe just a buddy who had a bass guitar or something

[00:44:36] He was

[00:44:38] Started what became RKL with Chris rest and bomber I believe

[00:44:44] Yeah, yeah

[00:44:46] Yeah, yeah

[00:44:48] So yeah, it's like three

[00:44:50] They're from Oxnard right?

[00:44:54] Yeah, so they're part of that like a Nardcore

[00:44:58] They started Nardcore

[00:45:00] What was the other big one ill-respeed

[00:45:04] It'll repeat thank you

[00:45:06] You said log dispute

[00:45:08] Nardwark war

[00:45:10] One for you

[00:45:12] Yeah, like a proto skate punk

[00:45:14] Like really tight musicianship hot punk really fucking fast

[00:45:20] Yeah, three or four

[00:45:22] Oh, I was at four

[00:45:24] That was four so you get one more yeah

[00:45:26] I said Chris Hannah

[00:45:28] Okay, I was like who do you do

[00:45:30] There's a really big one that you talk about a lot that you're missing

[00:45:32] I don't want to influence you

[00:45:34] No, I don't want to be as soon as we go

[00:45:38] Oh yeah, yeah, done

[00:45:40] Yeah, easy Bill Stevenson

[00:45:42] He's my musical hero

[00:45:44] I think he writes the best pop punk songs of all time

[00:45:48] I talk about this

[00:45:50] It's like kind of a running joke in the band is

[00:45:52] I wish drummers were less like Travis Barker or more like Bill Stevenson

[00:45:56] Just the dude is like so tasty

[00:46:00] Well, not tasty

[00:46:02] Well, we were gonna wait to tell you

[00:46:04] We were gonna wait to tell you

[00:46:06] We've got reasons actually also your dad

[00:46:08] That's weird

[00:46:10] Anyway, so

[00:46:12] He's like my drum hero

[00:46:14] My song right here

[00:46:16] I think he's just an incredible

[00:46:18] I think he's funny

[00:46:20] I think he's yeah

[00:46:22] I have the most joyous drummer I've ever watched

[00:46:24] Play drums

[00:46:26] Yeah, one there was one show

[00:46:28] And hey, you're drumming reminds me a lot of Bill Stevenson

[00:46:32] And I just like gave him a giant big hug

[00:46:34] And it's all on time to do

[00:46:36] Was that cooler than meeting

[00:46:38] Been 100 3000 wanted to meet you

[00:46:42] Meeting Andre 3000 was good

[00:46:44] You know

[00:46:46] That guy

[00:46:48] I was really nice to the world to me

[00:46:50] But I mean one is fucking outcast

[00:46:52] What did you guys talk about

[00:46:54] Because you told me that you met him

[00:46:56] And where'd you meet him telling that story

[00:46:58] So I was in a band before

[00:47:00] New John called the Bad Namels

[00:47:02] And it was like very

[00:47:04] Early look out

[00:47:06] Like Crimshrine

[00:47:08] Worship, Jawbreaker, Worship kind of

[00:47:10] Raiser K. K. Krewview

[00:47:12] MRR Krewview

[00:47:14] Yeah, Dakota

[00:47:16] Put that record out

[00:47:18] We'll send you a copy

[00:47:20] There's plenty

[00:47:22] So yeah, we played this show

[00:47:24] In Atlanta called F-59

[00:47:26] That is like at the time

[00:47:28] It was very notorious for having shows run

[00:47:30] Like they would start shows at like

[00:47:32] 10 30 11

[00:47:34] So we would end up playing last

[00:47:36] And it would be like two in the morning

[00:47:38] And so by that time we were all real drunk

[00:47:40] Real messed up

[00:47:42] And so we play the show

[00:47:44] We get done and the door guy who happened to be a friend of mine

[00:47:46] Walked up

[00:47:48] And it was like, Hey Andre wants to meet you

[00:47:50] I was like great. I'll talk to Andre in two minutes

[00:47:52] And I'll, my drums

[00:47:54] And then he was like no go do the back of the bar right now

[00:47:56] And then it was Andre 3000

[00:47:58] He'd be like hey, I'm Andre

[00:48:00] And now his hand

[00:48:02] And I was like, I know

[00:48:04] I love outcasts

[00:48:08] And Atlanta so like

[00:48:10] I think outcasts is just a little bit and all over blood

[00:48:14] If you will but yeah

[00:48:16] He talked about growing up

[00:48:18] Unpunkrock stuff really like the Bad Namels

[00:48:20] And uh talk about

[00:48:22] Yeah, dind by a record that cheap son of a bitch

[00:48:24] I talked about growing up in Savannah

[00:48:26] And uh learning how to play guitar

[00:48:28] On like old punk rock records

[00:48:30] And being really into like

[00:48:32] I forget what we mentioned but like

[00:48:34] Like real standard stuff like

[00:48:36] Ramones and like

[00:48:38] Yeah

[00:48:40] Sex pistols or whatever

[00:48:42] He wasn't into like fucking MDC

[00:48:44] Yeah yeah

[00:48:46] And he didn't name drop like you know something crazy

[00:48:48] But uh yeah, I talked about just like those formative stuff

[00:48:52] And learning how to play guitar based off of punk rock

[00:48:54] And really like and stuff

[00:48:56] And then I looked around me and there was like

[00:48:58] You know 15 people all waiting to meet Andre 3000

[00:49:00] And I was like this is cool

[00:49:02] But I'm good. I'll let you guys have your time

[00:49:04] So he I've heard a number of stories like this

[00:49:08] About him my wife has met him

[00:49:10] She works in the restaurant industry

[00:49:12] And she's served him a couple times

[00:49:14] And he's come into restaurants that she runs

[00:49:16] And she said that like people you know people will come up to him

[00:49:20] There's a huge fucking celebrity

[00:49:22] And they'll ask to take pictures

[00:49:24] And she said she watched someone come up

[00:49:26] And they were very much like

[00:49:28] I don't do this but like you're freaking Andre 3000

[00:49:30] Like can I please take a picture

[00:49:32] And he was like no, I don't do photos

[00:49:34] But if you want to like sit and talk for a while

[00:49:36] Like I would love to see you

[00:49:38] And then I said

[00:49:40] And talk for a while like I would love to get to know you a little bit

[00:49:44] Like it seems like he is

[00:49:46] Like a genuinely nice person

[00:49:48] That is happy to engage with people

[00:49:50] But it's not on this

[00:49:52] Just like

[00:49:54] Super fucking punk rock to be like yeah

[00:49:56] But this doesn't have to be this hierarchical thing

[00:49:58] Like we can just get to know each other

[00:50:00] It's two human beings and have a nice little moment together

[00:50:02] Like isn't that better than just taking

[00:50:04] Some little better official

[00:50:06] Yeah

[00:50:08] He's not wrong

[00:50:10] Nah, I fucking didn't even realize he just played like

[00:50:12] Six nights in a row here

[00:50:14] His new you know

[00:50:18] Flute shit

[00:50:20] And I have a friend that works at the venue

[00:50:22] And I was like do you got to give me tickets

[00:50:24] And he was like fuck off dude

[00:50:26] They wouldn't give anyone that work there any comp tickets

[00:50:28] And dub hub was like 300 bucks minimum

[00:50:30] Damn

[00:50:32] And like clubs you know

[00:50:34] Yeah he played four nights in a row at the variety I think

[00:50:36] And he just made what a thousand cap room maybe

[00:50:38] Something like that

[00:50:40] Yeah it's not you

[00:50:42] To play psychedelic world music

[00:50:44] Dude I love it. They're records great

[00:50:46] It's pretty out there

[00:50:48] I have more power to them man

[00:50:50] I watched them on

[00:50:52] Like Stephen Colbert

[00:50:54] And I was like oh shit

[00:50:56] It really is just

[00:50:58] Psychedelic world music

[00:51:00] He's saying you know

[00:51:02] Playing a flute

[00:51:04] He's a genius

[00:51:06] All cast is great

[00:51:08] Yeah you're

[00:51:10] Any bad man will fans is obviously a genius

[00:51:16] Are they your favorite hip hop group

[00:51:18] Outcast

[00:51:20] Oh that's a good one

[00:51:22] You got to pick your favorite

[00:51:24] Like a big hip hop guy

[00:51:26] Probably

[00:51:28] Honestly

[00:51:30] It's like a lot of it

[00:51:32] I would say are like run the jewels and outcast

[00:51:34] And it's so

[00:51:36] With Lanna you know

[00:51:38] And it makes you like proud to be

[00:51:40] Running Atlanta and it's like oh yeah

[00:51:42] Lanna you know

[00:51:44] Yeah so

[00:51:46] I'm very much in like

[00:51:48] I liked a lot of hip hop

[00:51:50] But I don't

[00:51:52] It's not like the culture I grew up with

[00:51:54] You know it was always around

[00:51:56] So I have like a very

[00:51:58] Very kind of

[00:52:00] There's a lot of it that I liked

[00:52:02] But I can't you know i couldn't go

[00:52:04] Great digging the way i could with like punk rock

[00:52:06] Records

[00:52:08] But I fucking outcast rules run the jewels

[00:52:10] Mob deep

[00:52:12] But like just like a small example

[00:52:14] Why outcast is so genius like hey

[00:52:16] Which we think of as this like kind of bubble gum pop song

[00:52:18] Is in mixed meter

[00:52:20] It's in it's two bars of four meets a bar of six

[00:52:24] And then two bars of four meets a bar of six

[00:52:26] And if next time you listen to that song

[00:52:30] And it's runs like that the entire time

[00:52:32] So one two three four one two three four one two three four five six

[00:52:36] One two three four and that's

[00:52:38] The entirety of the song

[00:52:40] And arguably one of the catchiest songs

[00:52:42] The last 30 years

[00:52:44] And he wrote it in crazy like

[00:52:46] Progg

[00:52:47] Neither

[00:52:48] What the fuck did you get that dreamy ring?

[00:52:50] Yeah exactly

[00:52:52] But it said it's the catchiest song

[00:52:54] Ever been written so yeah

[00:52:56] I have nothing but the utmost respect for that guy

[00:52:58] And or both of guys and yeah

[00:53:00] Yeah

[00:53:02] And they're very good to Atlanta

[00:53:04] They're really as good as you

[00:53:06] Yeah

[00:53:08] Since since we're on a topic of hip-hop

[00:53:10] And we talked about Fugazi earlier

[00:53:12] Then you guys ever hear that record

[00:53:14] That was made that was called Wu Gazi

[00:53:16] Yeah it's like

[00:53:18] It was in the mash-up shit was super popular right

[00:53:20] Yeah that one was actually pretty good

[00:53:22] Comparatively to a lot of other stuff people have done like that

[00:53:24] But

[00:53:26] It's impossible to find nowadays

[00:53:28] One did one

[00:53:30] It was like a sure girl talk sample Fugazi

[00:53:32] Probably

[00:53:34] There's like a trap version of

[00:53:36] In the airplane or the sea by neutral milk hotel

[00:53:38] Jesus

[00:53:40] That record

[00:53:42] I like that record but that record is pretty rough

[00:53:44] Yeah so I can imagine a trap version being not

[00:53:46] A lot of time with things like that

[00:53:48] Like

[00:53:50] Like I'd rather just listen to Fugazi

[00:53:52] Or just listen to Wu Tang Client

[00:53:54] You know

[00:53:56] The mash-up thing is fun

[00:53:58] It's clever you know

[00:54:00] And Ocarina of rhyme is really cool though

[00:54:02] I was never into any of the

[00:54:04] The only like whole mash-up record

[00:54:06] That I was into was the grey album

[00:54:10] Which was like the OG right

[00:54:12] It was a jazzy black album and Beatles by the album

[00:54:14] But I don't know about that

[00:54:16] And I do really like those girl talk records

[00:54:18] But to me it's something that like

[00:54:20] I don't

[00:54:22] I like the girl talk because it was

[00:54:24] So I mean like

[00:54:26] Few on Wikipedia and you look up the samples list

[00:54:28] For those songs there's like

[00:54:30] 100 samples in a three minute song

[00:54:32] It's fucking crazy

[00:54:34] So it's not the same as saying like

[00:54:36] I mixed this thing

[00:54:38] With this thing

[00:54:40] Right? Like I mixed red and yellow and god orange

[00:54:42] It's a little bit more like

[00:54:44] And I like that and it's super fun live

[00:54:46] Like I don't put girl talk on

[00:54:48] At home but I went to see girl talk when I was in college

[00:54:50] And it's in top five best shows

[00:54:52] I've ever seen

[00:54:54] I would have never gone

[00:54:56] I think I was at a festival when that happened

[00:54:58] And I said not for me

[00:55:00] I'll ask

[00:55:02] Not suitable for Jeffries

[00:55:04] Let everybody know where they could find

[00:55:06] The new record

[00:55:08] And give the dates again

[00:55:10] And all that good stuff

[00:55:12] We, the tracking finally updated

[00:55:14] And we should have them

[00:55:16] In hand physical copies in the next couple days

[00:55:18] So you could probably by the time this

[00:55:20] Heirs get them from us

[00:55:22] You can find us on instagram and link to our little limited run store

[00:55:26] Adam and say 10's gonna have copies

[00:55:28] Rudder can also have copies

[00:55:30] If your digital music person will be streaming

[00:55:32] Pretty much any of the streaming spots

[00:55:34] And yeah

[00:55:36] We're going to have a mall or a tour in Europe

[00:55:38] And then we're playing with pansy division

[00:55:40] And we're playing with the

[00:56:07] and we'll go ahead, Matt.

[00:56:09] Europe dates again?

[00:56:10] Yeah, the Europe dates.

[00:56:11] So we start.

[00:56:13] Do you want to hold run down or the short version?

[00:56:15] I see it.

[00:56:17] Whatever version you want.

[00:56:18] All right, let's test my memory.

[00:56:19] So we start on 17th of March, which is a Monday in Cologne.

[00:56:24] Then we go, you're already off.

[00:56:26] You're already off.

[00:56:28] I'm sorry, we leave the 17th.

[00:56:30] It starts on the 19th, which is a Monday.

[00:56:34] Dates, man.

[00:56:35] It's Cologne and then we go to Wisebatten and then Nuremberg,

[00:56:40] then Prague, then Leapsig.

[00:56:42] Then we are in Hanover, Hamburg and Amsterdam.

[00:56:46] And then we take a short little commuter flight

[00:56:48] and go to Watford in the UK, then London, then Bristol,

[00:56:52] and then we end with Manchester Punk Fest.

[00:56:54] We play on Saturday.

[00:56:56] And then we try to find money because we broke.

[00:57:02] Yeah, by the record.

[00:57:03] Yeah, please.

[00:57:06] Awesome.

[00:57:07] Thanks for new this again, guys, and good luck in Europe.

[00:57:09] It sounds like a rad tour.

[00:57:11] Yeah, it'll be fun.

[00:57:12] Thank you.

[00:57:12] Awesome.

[00:57:13] You guys.

[00:57:14] Super, super big fan of you guys.

[00:57:17] Love it.

[00:57:18] New single can't wait to hear another album.

[00:57:20] Thanks, and we'll hopefully make it back up your direction

[00:57:23] at some point.

[00:57:25] Again, if you hit DC, hit us up because we

[00:57:29] bucked a cool little spot there.

[00:57:32] That may end up being a thing where I just hit you guys

[00:57:34] up at some point, too.

[00:57:35] And be like, hey, you want to play show in DC?

[00:57:37] Yeah, if it's cool enough show, then we'll make it.

[00:57:39] I think about 90% of the stuff we've done happens.

[00:57:42] So I was like, will you come here?

[00:57:43] I guess, sure.

[00:57:44] Sure.

[00:57:45] Whatever.

[00:57:46] We're not hard events.

[00:57:47] Is there a portillo?

[00:57:49] Ben's chili bowl.

[00:57:51] What is a pie shop?

[00:57:53] OK, yeah, the pie shop.

[00:57:55] I'm very well versed in trying to book shows there.

[00:57:57] I was trying to think, can you get me into the Smithsonian

[00:58:05] for free?

[00:58:06] OK.

[00:58:07] Yeah, I know a guy that's missing it.

[00:58:08] You can memorial you give you in for free.

[00:58:11] I'm like a man versus game and give me them tickets.

[00:58:15] Yeah.

[00:58:16] Well, hey, if you want a book of show at the pie shop, hit us up.

[00:58:20] Cool.

[00:58:21] Totally.

[00:58:22] Well, we'll make sure that happens.

[00:58:23] You got to.

[00:58:24] Yeah.

[00:58:25] Never financially recovering from this year's trip.

[00:58:26] Yeah.

[00:58:27] We're hoping to probably next year do another East Coast run.

[00:58:30] Yeah, awesome.

[00:58:31] Cool.

[00:58:32] Cool, guys.

[00:58:33] Thanks a lot.

[00:58:34] Yeah.

[00:58:35] Thanks.

[00:58:36] Bye.

[00:58:37] Take care.
