[00:00:00] What's going on everybody welcome to another episode of Our Brains Hurt. Thanks a lot for hanging out. We are running a contest on our website all month, the whole month of March into April. Go to ourbrainshurt.com and you get to choose your All Star punk rock band.
[00:00:16] Go to ourbrainshurt.com and we are going to vote on it in April and they will be prizes for the winner.
[00:00:27] So ourbrainshurt.com All Star Punk Rock Band, go there, submit it and maybe you can win.
[00:00:46] We have a lot of money in the asses really nice and we finally gave in and we said alright alright you were song but it's going to be a clone of a screeching we will song then we heard a while ago.
[00:00:55] So we rolled in the jingled and it sounded really bad it was the best little jiggle that they practice every hand but they found that you ripped in the knee and now they step with that and jingled, see an All Brain 10.
[00:01:05] Alright tonight, we are talking the steal boy from Richmond.
[00:01:24] Yes correct.
[00:01:34] Okay. This band is rad Matt, uh, turned me on to them about two months ago.
[00:01:38] Yeah. They are rad.
[00:01:39] I saw them live, you know, new up and coming bands, some live in Richmond.
[00:01:44] Uh, but in mine is in there.
[00:01:46] Couple guys I know actually, um, good band.
[00:01:49] Sweet. Super soft.
[00:01:51] You have a back to the future.
[00:01:52] Three shirt on Ryan.
[00:01:53] Is that your favorite back to the future?
[00:01:54] Yes, actually.
[00:01:58] I met this.
[00:01:59] So I got a comment.
[00:02:01] Yeah.
[00:02:02] Oh, yeah.
[00:02:04] Like cool man.
[00:02:06] I don't know what else to say, but I don't think that dude.
[00:02:09] I haven't seen.
[00:02:10] I've never seen that guy in anything else besides back to the future.
[00:02:14] Uh, if he's never had a show big love on, you know, he's like, oh, was he?
[00:02:20] Okay.
[00:02:20] Yeah.
[00:02:20] He's like unrecognizable now.
[00:02:23] Yeah.
[00:02:23] There's, there he's got some weird thing that went down with him at some point of
[00:02:29] thing.
[00:02:30] I can't, yeah.
[00:02:32] I'll have to find it.
[00:02:33] Was it sports betting in the future?
[00:02:37] Yep.
[00:02:37] That was it.
[00:02:39] I don't have to look it up.
[00:02:39] That was it.
[00:02:40] Well played there.
[00:02:41] That was great.
[00:02:44] So why don't you go around and introduce yourselves, say what you do in the bands
[00:02:49] and then we'll get into other stuff.
[00:02:51] I'm Yani.
[00:02:51] I'm the front girl.
[00:02:53] Go ahead.
[00:02:53] Come on.
[00:02:54] Come on.
[00:02:56] I'll just say that.
[00:02:56] Damn.
[00:02:57] That's embarrassing.
[00:02:58] Yeah.
[00:02:58] Go ahead there, Kyla.
[00:02:59] You introduce yourself.
[00:03:00] Oh, I'm not Kyla.
[00:03:02] I'm a, I'm sage and I play drums.
[00:03:04] Why don't I play beige?
[00:03:07] And I'm Chris.
[00:03:08] I play guitar together.
[00:03:10] We are still here.
[00:03:13] All one word, all lower case.
[00:03:15] Yeah.
[00:03:16] Yeah.
[00:03:17] Where'd the name come from?
[00:03:20] Resident Evil actually.
[00:03:22] Yeah.
[00:03:22] Oh, I'll take this one.
[00:03:24] I guess.
[00:03:25] Yeah.
[00:03:26] Yeah, I jokingly at practice was like, you know, we were trying to think of names and stuff for this
[00:03:33] reimagining slash new project that we were doing.
[00:03:37] And I just was in the middle of another Resident Evil 2 remake playthrough.
[00:03:43] And I'd we're just standing around outside and I was like, what about Steel Boy?
[00:03:47] That's the brand of shut young shells and Resident Evil.
[00:03:51] And everyone's like, oh, that's pretty cool.
[00:03:53] And that was probably my crowning achievement.
[00:03:56] What?
[00:03:58] What is Yani doing?
[00:04:00] I don't hate it, man.
[00:04:04] Well, everything Yani would bring to practice because it was like, okay, everybody
[00:04:07] bring a few names to practice.
[00:04:08] And it was like, but here's the criteria.
[00:04:10] You need to search it on, you know, band camp, you need to search it on Spotify and make sure
[00:04:16] it doesn't exist because we used to be in another band years ago.
[00:04:20] And it was called Clever Girl.
[00:04:22] And there was another clever girl that was based out of the UK.
[00:04:25] So we were constantly getting these messages like, Hey, are you guys from the UK?
[00:04:28] Would you like to play over here and it's like, no, we're not there.
[00:04:30] We're still message that into them thinking where that other band
[00:04:35] and it's like, obviously not then
[00:04:40] remote cover band at the end and half of the post on the Instagram or a bunch of
[00:04:44] remote gears like this mass rock band is not doing the
[00:04:51] So yeah, Yani would show up with like all these names and it's like within two
[00:04:55] seconds.
[00:04:55] We were like, okay, well, great names, great names.
[00:04:58] But they were only taking like 10 of them on Spotify.
[00:05:02] They were so great.
[00:05:03] They were taking 10 times.
[00:05:05] One of them was whole tight too, which I that was so funny because
[00:05:08] I've been a rich man.
[00:05:10] I don't know.
[00:05:11] I think you're here.
[00:05:13] I want to name the band Boom Blaze, but no one.
[00:05:16] Yeah, I vetoed that real quick.
[00:05:19] Like a chicken blade, right?
[00:05:21] I was okay with boom blaze.
[00:05:23] I'm on board with boom blaze.
[00:05:25] That'll be an album one day.
[00:05:26] It will be.
[00:05:27] Yeah, yeah.
[00:05:28] Compromise.
[00:05:29] The steel boy thing though from from a shotgun shell.
[00:05:31] That's it is pretty cool.
[00:05:34] I love when band stuff comes from video games actually because it's like few
[00:05:36] and far between you don't find it too often.
[00:05:38] Every once in a while, you'll find a little gem like that.
[00:05:41] That's a good one.
[00:05:44] I haven't played a video game since the original NES.
[00:05:46] So man, you got to get on that.
[00:05:51] I can't I just I don't want to get into anything else.
[00:05:53] I'm into enough.
[00:05:55] So I'm into enough.
[00:05:56] Yeah.
[00:05:56] There's too much too much stuff.
[00:05:58] I got I get that.
[00:06:00] Yeah, I hate coming up with names and there's every fucking name is taken.
[00:06:04] We're like so the other day I thought of like a really funny TV show idea.
[00:06:09] Do you guys remember small wonder?
[00:06:11] You guys aren't as old as me.
[00:06:13] Do you know what the dog like robot?
[00:06:15] Yeah, it was like a robot sister who lived in a closet.
[00:06:20] I thought it would be cool to have a show called.
[00:06:24] Yeah, it was like, he is a robot and she was like super strong of course.
[00:06:30] You got to go wash reruns up.
[00:06:32] It's small.
[00:06:33] Yeah, it's ridiculous.
[00:06:34] I thought it would be cool to have a show called exercise.
[00:06:36] So like this, you have a sister who's like who has who's like a you know.
[00:06:41] Is that a film?
[00:06:42] Is that yeah, but it's like a sitcom.
[00:06:44] So she's like, you know, funny, but she just possessed.
[00:06:48] But exorcist is like 18,000 movies and everything called exorcist.
[00:06:54] But I wasn't I didn't feel as original after a few minutes of googling.
[00:06:58] Damn, missed it, missed it by that much.
[00:07:00] It won't be up.
[00:07:04] Oh well.
[00:07:05] Um, have you got you guys are all from Richmond or the Richmond area?
[00:07:09] Or you're there now?
[00:07:10] Are you originally from there?
[00:07:13] Richmond, California.
[00:07:14] Yeah, I've been I've been in Richmond now 11 years.
[00:07:19] I was kind of born and raised around the area, moved away for, I don't know, 10 or 15 years
[00:07:24] and came back.
[00:07:25] So we've been here for a while now.
[00:07:27] I mean, me and my wife and kids.
[00:07:29] Yeah, and I was I was born in new, I was born in New Hampshire.
[00:07:32] I'm not from here at all.
[00:07:34] I always forget that.
[00:07:35] I always think you're like, you know, you always think Fredrick's
[00:07:41] Berg or like Connecticut or something like those two extremes.
[00:07:45] And that's it.
[00:07:46] Where in New Hampshire?
[00:07:48] Uh, I was born in LaConia.
[00:07:50] Okay.
[00:07:50] Then I grew up mostly though in the, uh, uh, quaint small town of sandwich, new
[00:07:58] hamster.
[00:08:00] Sam's.
[00:08:01] I'm not kidding.
[00:08:02] I never knew we had the sandwich police.
[00:08:05] I shit you not.
[00:08:08] That's a great name for a restaurant actually.
[00:08:10] sandwich police.
[00:08:12] Yani is going to try to make that a band.
[00:08:15] When it can be something.
[00:08:17] I've been to Lake Winnipezaki a few times.
[00:08:20] Yeah, yeah.
[00:08:21] Yeah, I love it there.
[00:08:22] It's beautiful.
[00:08:22] I haven't been up there in a long, long time and I've lived here in Richmond for,
[00:08:26] uh, I guess 12 years now.
[00:08:27] So it's been a minute.
[00:08:30] Is that how long you've been down this way?
[00:08:31] 12 years?
[00:08:32] Yeah, yeah.
[00:08:32] I moved here in 2012.
[00:08:35] So that so around when I first met you, is that when you first moved down here?
[00:08:38] Pretty much.
[00:08:39] Yeah.
[00:08:39] Cause pretty shortly after I moved, uh, joined up with, uh, like some contest and all
[00:08:45] then and like the scumboy's days and all that.
[00:08:47] Yeah.
[00:08:48] I guess it would have been a little bit after that, but you're around there.
[00:08:50] Yeah.
[00:08:51] Yeah.
[00:08:53] I'm flies man.
[00:08:55] Yeah.
[00:08:55] Geez.
[00:08:56] It really does.
[00:08:58] Holy crap.
[00:08:59] Yani, where are you from?
[00:09:01] Um, so I was born in Louisiana and then my family moved to Philly and then moved
[00:09:07] to Virginia.
[00:09:08] But I mean, Virginia's really home.
[00:09:10] So I've got you.
[00:09:11] Been here since college.
[00:09:12] So nice.
[00:09:15] Did you go to VCU?
[00:09:16] No, actually, I went to Hanson.
[00:09:18] It's an HVC.
[00:09:20] Gotcha.
[00:09:20] Yeah.
[00:09:22] Yeah, Matt and I are heading down that way for the show one Monday.
[00:09:27] Strong out.
[00:09:28] I mean, it's not.
[00:09:29] But we're passing through.
[00:09:31] Yeah.
[00:09:32] Where's the guy at the norva?
[00:09:37] Um, it's at the lesson.
[00:09:39] Jake show.
[00:09:40] It is.
[00:09:41] Yeah.
[00:09:41] Yeah.
[00:09:41] Yeah.
[00:09:42] Yeah.
[00:09:43] Damn.
[00:09:44] I guess I forgot showing that was point.
[00:09:47] Yeah.
[00:09:47] That's all good.
[00:09:48] You should grab a ticket.
[00:09:49] Let's get in the van.
[00:09:52] I have the second half of a queen bed.
[00:09:53] If anybody wants to take it, I have one of the tellers.
[00:09:56] So well, Ron, myself, a bunch of my old, uh,
[00:10:02] much of my old high school friends and stuff, a bunch of punk rockers are all.
[00:10:06] We made it a night.
[00:10:06] So like, yeah, you guys go and think there's like possible places this day.
[00:10:13] We all got to tell him so.
[00:10:15] Dude, all you need is the possibility and hope.
[00:10:18] That's right.
[00:10:19] That's what makes the world get around.
[00:10:22] Well, it sucks.
[00:10:22] We had Jake Kylie, the the hardest on our show last year and we're like,
[00:10:27] fuck it.
[00:10:27] We're going to hit up Jay because he's, he's very responsive.
[00:10:30] Like he's super cool guy to talk to.
[00:10:32] Um, we're like, we're going to hit him up and we're going to fucking hang out with them
[00:10:35] and he's not going to be on this tour with them.
[00:10:36] So.
[00:10:37] Oh, that's.
[00:10:39] It's like, sorry guys, I'm not going to be there.
[00:10:42] He's a part of the game.
[00:10:44] Tomorrow with the gimmick, him.
[00:10:45] He's right now.
[00:10:46] Oh, that's cool.
[00:10:48] Yeah.
[00:10:49] Yeah.
[00:10:49] I wonder if they'll have a replacement or just have.
[00:10:52] What's the.
[00:10:52] No, it'll be.
[00:10:53] Don't be somebody there.
[00:10:54] They, um, they actually toured without him.
[00:10:59] I think in Australia or something, but they replaced him with a different bassist
[00:11:04] and Chris played guitar.
[00:11:06] Oh, okay.
[00:11:07] So it's probably going to be that I would imagine.
[00:11:09] Yeah, I would.
[00:11:10] Yeah, I would hate the difference for man like that.
[00:11:12] All their songs are so fucking hard.
[00:11:14] Yeah.
[00:11:16] And legit.
[00:11:16] Their bassist Chris is the best guitarist in that band.
[00:11:20] Now, that's one of the.
[00:11:21] Yeah.
[00:11:21] Yeah.
[00:11:24] All right.
[00:11:24] So I'm, I want to, I always like to figure out like when people kind of got into
[00:11:28] punk rock and how people got into punk rock because you know, it's something you
[00:11:33] have to kind of find or be introduced to.
[00:11:36] So, um, whoever wants to start off just let me know, let us know like how you
[00:11:40] got into it with some of the first band you kind of fell in love with.
[00:11:43] And, uh, you know what any kind of scene was like where were you grew up?
[00:11:48] Um, I guess like, so I was I grew up in like Southern California.
[00:11:52] So like the reo station always had like, like, like, you do French air a blank
[00:11:58] claim on the radio, which I'm not sure if that was the same over here or not.
[00:12:04] No, but so it was like, you know, Ducy, of course, I got into, I was probably 13.
[00:12:11] No, no, before then maybe like seven or eight actually.
[00:12:14] I guess that's where the real thing is, sorry, I got into a cheek metal phase after
[00:12:18] that force.
[00:12:20] So it was like this thing and stuff.
[00:12:21] I was just like that perfect age for that bullshit.
[00:12:24] Will you say?
[00:12:24] Limp is good.
[00:12:25] Yeah.
[00:12:27] Oh, we're not.
[00:12:28] We can be born to back in the day and I really like three 11 two back then and
[00:12:33] still love 311.
[00:12:35] Yeah.
[00:12:35] That's my way of favor band.
[00:12:36] Yeah.
[00:12:37] I don't care it on the years 311.
[00:12:42] Then I got told of the value by no effects.
[00:12:44] That was like, yeah, a restless history.
[00:12:48] I'll just read their thank you and find the bands that they think.
[00:12:52] Yeah, those those thank you sections are awesome.
[00:12:54] That's what I'm back to.
[00:12:56] Yeah.
[00:12:56] That's way to find the band back in the day before the end of the talk about the
[00:13:00] thank you section on this show before.
[00:13:01] I don't know.
[00:13:02] It's like a.
[00:13:03] Yeah.
[00:13:04] It's like a please listen to these bands also.
[00:13:07] Yeah, let me do like lag, lag and let me just song out.
[00:13:10] Let me just like every band that family can finger in.
[00:13:14] Yeah.
[00:13:15] Yeah.
[00:13:18] Literally.
[00:13:22] He couldn't be happier.
[00:13:27] I'll go next.
[00:13:29] Yeah.
[00:13:30] So I guess I started getting into it around 12 or 13ish.
[00:13:37] Nice.
[00:13:38] Thanks to my buddies older brother that was like 16 or 17, you know, in high school.
[00:13:46] He would always like give us rides, you know, to school and, you know, when we got up
[00:13:51] to high school, you know, he'd give us rides in the morning, which he hated.
[00:13:55] You know, he was he was super into BMX.
[00:13:56] He was super into punk.
[00:13:58] He played drums.
[00:14:00] So like every morning, you know, there was always something cool on like.
[00:14:03] And is this enrichment?
[00:14:04] Sorry to cut you out.
[00:14:06] So I would have been in actually a North, a Norfolk Chesapeake area.
[00:14:10] Okay.
[00:14:11] This time I spent like four years there when my dad was working down that way after
[00:14:16] Richmond.
[00:14:18] But yeah, like every morning, you know, he would have something play and I remember
[00:14:22] like specifically latching onto like, like face to face.
[00:14:26] Yeah, like the face to face CD in there.
[00:14:28] And I super loved the disconnected song.
[00:14:31] And then he was playing like Scott stuff, less than Jake and real big fish and
[00:14:35] MXPX and Pennywise and just all these bands.
[00:14:38] And so like, I was just like, Hey, can your brother like burn me a copy of these
[00:14:42] CDs?
[00:14:43] And I remember for Christmas that year, I had asked my parents to get me the
[00:14:48] less than Jake losing streak record.
[00:14:52] And it was wrapped up under the tree.
[00:14:54] And I kind of I faked like being sick one day during
[00:14:58] right before the Christmas break.
[00:15:00] And my mom's like, Okay, well, you can just stay home.
[00:15:02] And so like I unwrapped the CD and just like played it all day long while,
[00:15:06] you know, they were at work and then I wrapped it back up.
[00:15:12] So yeah, I mean, just getting into it like with my, my, my buddies older brother
[00:15:17] and then he would take us to shows.
[00:15:19] I remember one show was like, you know, we were getting like the punk
[00:15:22] aromatoors and stuff back then and like MXPX came through with like crazy,
[00:15:27] like good Charlotte, which you know, throw that aside.
[00:15:30] But like good Charlotte, how about getting MXPX?
[00:15:33] Yeah, fucking Bobo finest.
[00:15:35] Yeah.
[00:15:36] And like I don't know the like the punk around with tour came through and it was
[00:15:39] like US bombs and the deviates and just Phoenix TX.
[00:15:45] So yeah, just getting getting into it, you know, through those bands.
[00:15:48] And then yeah, like Ryan said, reading the liner notes.
[00:15:52] And then when I started playing guitar, you know, a year later, whatever like the
[00:15:56] back of the Ernie ball string packet.
[00:15:58] It's like as used by MXPX Pennywise and it's like just looking at the back
[00:16:03] of a guitar string package and it's like, okay, well here's all these other bands.
[00:16:07] And then, you know, hop on lime wire, get a million viruses.
[00:16:14] That's a throwback.
[00:16:15] Yeah.
[00:16:17] So there you have it.
[00:16:19] Nice.
[00:16:20] I think the first time I heard punk rock music was eighth grade a friend of mine.
[00:16:25] It introduced me to bad brains and I just had never heard anything like it.
[00:16:29] At the time, I was listening to like a lot of rap.
[00:16:31] I think my my journey in a puck is like much more secluded than theirs because
[00:16:37] I was informed by like a lot of other genres like the band is the first time I've ever sung
[00:16:41] punk rock.
[00:16:42] But bad rings was definitely like kind of like an a week new for me.
[00:16:45] Like they're black people doing this kind of music.
[00:16:48] Yeah.
[00:16:48] And they were iconic and pioneer and I kind of think this band is too.
[00:16:52] So that's also was that in Philly or was that?
[00:16:57] Oh, Philly.
[00:16:58] Okay.
[00:16:59] When I was like 13, 14 living in Nova in Warranton, Virginia, you know,
[00:17:08] angsty little high school me.
[00:17:10] Someone had like burned me a CD of like their own weird like compilation of
[00:17:17] misfits, the cramps, bad brains.
[00:17:21] Just like a bunch of stuff like that.
[00:17:23] And up until that point I was just listening to like the Beatles and
[00:17:28] a lot, a lot of 80s like the Pesh mode, you know, all that.
[00:17:32] I love that shit there.
[00:17:33] Oh, yeah.
[00:17:34] Great.
[00:17:34] So then like all of a sudden here comes this punk shit in and I'm like, oh,
[00:17:37] shit, what is this?
[00:17:39] And yeah, fell in love with the misfits.
[00:17:42] My uncle on my mom's side, he, I guess got wind of all this.
[00:17:47] And gave me the next time I saw him, he handed me a CD, a couple of CDs.
[00:17:52] One of them was everything sucks descendants.
[00:17:56] And another was I think punk O'Rama two or three, which is the one with like the
[00:18:01] epitaph dude like pissing on the wall?
[00:18:04] I think that's two.
[00:18:05] Yeah, I think I think it was.
[00:18:07] It was that one.
[00:18:08] And that also was just game over because you know, misfits descendants love
[00:18:13] them all like still this day, but like seeing how much, you know,
[00:18:17] all the epitaph fans back then could go faster to and all of them just having
[00:18:22] like those cannon kick drums and stuff and all that.
[00:18:25] I was like, holy shit, what is this?
[00:18:29] First time, first new effects song I ever heard was idiots are taking over.
[00:18:34] And I remember thinking to like, dude, someone's foot can do that shit.
[00:18:38] Oh, I need to learn how to do that.
[00:18:41] But yeah, and that's pretty much what it was for me.
[00:18:44] So it was smelly like a big influence on you?
[00:18:47] For sure. Oh, yeah.
[00:18:49] I remember reading when I was younger and like learning how to play the drums
[00:18:53] and stuff.
[00:18:54] I used just like a single pedal, you know, starting to learn for a long time
[00:18:58] because I had read a thing that he had said of like double pedal is for cheaters
[00:19:03] or some might think, you know, like if you play a double pedal, you're a pussy
[00:19:06] or you know, whatever smelly would say.
[00:19:08] Yeah, yeah.
[00:19:08] And I was like, yeah, that's true.
[00:19:11] And then I got a double pedal for a while and was using that.
[00:19:14] But like nowadays I don't need it.
[00:19:17] I don't like, I never did like, you know, the fast stuff with it.
[00:19:20] It was just for chip that I didn't need.
[00:19:23] But yes, I mean, now it's like, I've gone right back into that original mindset of
[00:19:27] like, if I don't need it, I don't need to be lugging all this shit around.
[00:19:30] And you know, get faster with one.
[00:19:34] I always say the best drummers of the guys that can do the most with the least.
[00:19:38] Yeah.
[00:19:39] Yeah.
[00:19:41] Have you read this?
[00:19:42] Hepatitis bathtub?
[00:19:44] I listened to the audio like version, but they're all they all read.
[00:19:48] Or it's that that looks like makes like Molly crew look like a kid.
[00:19:53] Yeah.
[00:19:54] So disturbing.
[00:19:55] It's hilarious and sad.
[00:19:56] It's everything.
[00:19:58] You know, Dave has that book.
[00:19:59] Dave has that book.
[00:20:00] Yeah.
[00:20:00] Dave.
[00:20:02] The story of smelly like shitting into the spaghetti strainer to get his heroin.
[00:20:06] It's right.
[00:20:07] Yeah.
[00:20:08] God.
[00:20:11] He got heroin and he was pulled over.
[00:20:12] I guess he had this girl in the car and he swallowed his balloon of heroin.
[00:20:17] And he was pissed off because he, you know, he wasn't going to get his fix.
[00:20:20] So he went to his parents house, took their spaghetti strainer.
[00:20:24] Shit in the in their spaghetti strainer until the heroin came out.
[00:20:28] And then he cleaned the spaghetti strainer and put it back into their cabin.
[00:20:32] People don't realize what heroin addicts will do to get their fix.
[00:20:38] I'm more upset about putting the fucking calendar back into the, yeah,
[00:20:44] there's no use later.
[00:20:45] Yeah.
[00:20:46] Imagine going to imagine go back to your parents in two weeks and being like,
[00:20:48] yeah, we're having spaghetti.
[00:20:50] I'll pass.
[00:20:54] So I brought food.
[00:20:58] Well, they don't know.
[00:21:00] At least they washed it.
[00:21:01] You know what?
[00:21:03] I know the drum beat that's a talking about like that.
[00:21:06] That's what definitely be falling over to how fast the drums get.
[00:21:11] Yeah.
[00:21:11] And I noticed that like if you didn't grow up like listen to that beat and your drummer,
[00:21:17] he like can't play it.
[00:21:18] Like I've tried to like show other drummers like no, it's like this.
[00:21:22] And they like can't wrap their.
[00:21:24] A round.
[00:21:25] It was odd.
[00:21:27] Yeah.
[00:21:28] Yeah, a lot of them use that like the double kick for that.
[00:21:31] Like for the that fast double stroke thing.
[00:21:33] But like, yeah, you can do it with one then hot dog.
[00:21:37] Do that.
[00:21:38] I mean, yeah, I mean, I became a drummer because I've necessity in my, in the scene.
[00:21:43] So I so I lived in Indiana for like 12 or 13 years.
[00:21:48] And I was playing guitar almost full time.
[00:21:51] And my brother actually got a drum set.
[00:21:53] And one night I went to practice and the drummer, the bass player and one of the guitar players were like,
[00:22:00] all right, well, we're done.
[00:22:01] We're done with this band.
[00:22:03] We had just like gotten a new singer and he was there for the first practice.
[00:22:08] And I was like, well, I still want to be in a band.
[00:22:10] I'll get back there and play those drums and we'll find another guitar player and another bass player.
[00:22:15] And so I, I learned to play drums just like because it was a necessity to like be in bands in my scene.
[00:22:21] There was like two drummers in the whole scene and of course there are like 10 bands a piece.
[00:22:28] Yeah, so yeah, I actually had to learn that beat.
[00:22:31] And I had to cheat using the two, the double kick.
[00:22:35] So, you know, I kind of cheat with the double, I'm a cheater, you know, for double with double kick.
[00:22:42] Well, you also grew up with all the drive through record bands.
[00:22:45] Of course, of course he is the double kick.
[00:22:48] Yeah, yeah.
[00:22:49] Not cheating or not trying.
[00:22:51] Yeah.
[00:22:53] Hey, I have to drive it, man.
[00:22:55] I'm with you.
[00:22:58] So when did Steelboy start and how did it start?
[00:23:02] I was going to say someone should maybe start at the beginning.
[00:23:05] Start at the beginning then come to the back and then reference the beginning every once in a while.
[00:23:09] Yeah.
[00:23:10] We were in 2017.
[00:23:13] In 2017.
[00:23:15] Yeah.
[00:23:15] Yeah.
[00:23:16] And we had another guitar player and Chris was playing drums for us.
[00:23:21] And then I want to get you into it.
[00:23:24] Some weird shit happening.
[00:23:27] Kind of disbanded a little bit and then we came back with stages or drummer.
[00:23:35] Chris guitar, and we still had our other guitar players.
[00:23:37] I mean, Jared came in.
[00:23:38] So we were five piece upstarting when we were still going again.
[00:23:41] But getting back to point L, I guess.
[00:23:44] Yeah, pretty much.
[00:23:45] I mean, we tried.
[00:23:46] We tried keeping in C17 together.
[00:23:51] There was like, we played like one shitty show where I played guitar and sage played drums.
[00:23:57] We went down to Wilmington and we played like this fast that they do down there.
[00:24:01] A poor city blitz.
[00:24:02] It wasn't shitty because of us though.
[00:24:05] It would not be shitty.
[00:24:07] Typical difficulties.
[00:24:08] Like the bass cabinet went out like when we were sound checking and they wouldn't move.
[00:24:12] It was two stages on either side of the bar and they wouldn't move.
[00:24:17] No cabinet from the other side to us.
[00:24:19] So they hooked Ryan into a fucking PA speaker and we played the set.
[00:24:24] Blue the speaker like.
[00:24:27] Yeah, no speaker.
[00:24:28] Oh yeah, imagine that.
[00:24:30] He almost got electrocuted to somebody guerrillas.
[00:24:33] Don't
[00:24:35] like it was a whole new.
[00:24:38] That's what Wilmington is.
[00:24:40] Yeah, so we played this one awful show together as a five piece as NC 17.
[00:24:45] And then we had some drama happen and then yeah, we kind of came back after the holidays
[00:24:50] and actually me and Ryan and sage were just going to stick together and do like a three piece.
[00:24:56] And we were just kind of kind of do like a jockey kind of band.
[00:24:59] We were talking about like well let's cover the the Seinfeld ringer, the ringtone that joy.
[00:25:05] Oh dude.
[00:25:06] You're going to still do that.
[00:25:09] We were going to do silly shit and like we were going to cover you know the George answering machine thing
[00:25:15] and we were going to I wrote like a scaw song which we actually have the scaw song.
[00:25:21] It's it's going to be coming out in our in our new EP.
[00:25:23] Nice.
[00:25:24] And like a month, I was like you guys want to write a scaw song because I've got this cool upstroke thing.
[00:25:29] So we wrote a scaw song.
[00:25:31] We were going to do the answering machine thing and then Yani came back and was like, Hey,
[00:25:36] you guys want to like get together and maybe just like play some of the old songs or just hang out.
[00:25:41] And we're like, well as a matter of fact the three of us are actually still kind of playing music together.
[00:25:47] So if you just want to like come check out these new songs,
[00:25:50] we're not going to play any old NC 17 stuff because of what happened.
[00:25:53] But you know we've got new songs.
[00:25:55] Yeah.
[00:25:56] And we've got a lot of old catalog or whatever.
[00:25:58] Just kind of like to reset the stage like blank slate kind of thing and honestly.
[00:26:06] I should have just getting better and better so there's some time in the beginning that like we've evolved a little bit.
[00:26:13] So yeah, you have to self out.
[00:26:16] What do you start singing?
[00:26:18] Oh, as a kid like a little like a little girl or whatever.
[00:26:22] I'm the only one who doesn't play more than one instrument in the band, but I write and I've been writing since I was like a little girl to coaching.
[00:26:33] Like rats for a while.
[00:26:36] I kind of throw some of that into the stuff we do now, but is your family musically inclined?
[00:26:41] How did you get into that?
[00:26:43] My dad was a big singer.
[00:26:46] Nice.
[00:26:47] My dad was a big singer.
[00:26:50] And my little brother is actually a crazy good musician too, so I think it's kind of like I don't know whether or not you can say music runs in your jeans, but I kind of feel like it does.
[00:27:02] And then Mary and that would like poetry and writing or whatever just kind of perfect.
[00:27:07] So I try to compliment what the boys do like they come up with bangers and.
[00:27:11] It's cool to me to give a chance to like shape it into whatever I think and I kind of like.
[00:27:19] I don't know grass wanted to conversations we have because we're friends too and hang a lot.
[00:27:26] I don't know what just happens organically, but.
[00:27:29] I'm glad you guys landed on what steel boy is because it's it's it's Brad, you guys caught my ear immediately when you started playing.
[00:27:38] You guys you guys have some keep moving forward like you guys got something it's it's good.
[00:27:44] What song did y'all hear?
[00:27:47] I don't know what song it was because it was when you guys played with 40 reps at a.
[00:27:54] Yeah, the parking lots or whatever song you guys open with that night.
[00:27:58] I don't know what song it was, but it immediately caught my attention.
[00:28:02] I think it was killer share song we don't play anymore.
[00:28:07] You know, it was actually the first NC 17 song.
[00:28:11] I love that.
[00:28:12] But Ryan has a tendency like he'll love a song as soon as we write it and he'll love it for like a week.
[00:28:22] And he's like, he told me that he doesn't want to play anymore.
[00:28:26] Not all of them but yeah, I'm getting longer than a week.
[00:28:32] Have you guys played up in DC at all?
[00:28:36] We did not shop.
[00:28:39] But as NC 17 I still got it's just line up.
[00:28:43] Yeah, not with me.
[00:28:45] Yeah, I was going to say we have a plate.
[00:28:48] Man, we have about we have a couple of shoes were sitting up right now.
[00:28:54] Yeah, well, and we'll get you on one of them if you want to be on one of them.
[00:28:59] It'll be in July.
[00:29:01] Well, potentially there's already.
[00:29:04] Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, hopefully, hopefully, hopefully, sure hope so.
[00:29:10] Yeah.
[00:29:12] Spoilers.
[00:29:14] But also what you're talking about.
[00:29:17] But also you just said July that sounds sweet like yeah, I'll.
[00:29:22] Yeah, July June another J I don't care.
[00:29:25] I'll go.
[00:29:26] Yeah, any whatever any J month we can.
[00:29:30] I shop is so fucking sweet.
[00:29:33] I play like every weekend.
[00:29:35] Yeah, I still never played there.
[00:29:37] They treat their bands so well.
[00:29:39] Yeah, I think the whole setup is insane.
[00:29:41] The fact that there's a full back line and you don't have to pull all your drums and shit up there and it's decent gear.
[00:29:48] It's a Marshall cabinet.
[00:29:49] It's an eight then.
[00:29:50] It's not even decent gear.
[00:29:52] It's like good solid.
[00:29:54] Yeah, it's a good deal.
[00:29:55] It's primo.
[00:29:56] Their house guitar heads are JC fucking 900s like Jason.
[00:30:00] Yeah, like.
[00:30:01] Sound the sound.
[00:30:02] They're symbols.
[00:30:03] Yeah, it's it's awesome.
[00:30:05] Yeah, I wish more venues had that accommodation.
[00:30:08] Yep.
[00:30:09] Oh, for sure.
[00:30:10] Like that's how it ought to be like yeah, it's always like one of those kind of pipe dream things like oh man did be sweet open a venue one day.
[00:30:18] Yeah, say I win the lottery and like oh boy here we go.
[00:30:22] I'm that's the first thing I'm doing is making sure like there's accommodations there's shit there for the bands.
[00:30:28] There's a good drum set not something he said fallen apart shit.
[00:30:32] Wait, that's the first thing you're doing if you get no knowledge.
[00:30:37] I don't need to do that.
[00:30:40] What are you talking about?
[00:30:41] That'll be there.
[00:30:42] That will always be there.
[00:30:44] Yeah.
[00:30:46] No, yeah, I want to play the pie shop.
[00:30:48] I've never played there.
[00:30:49] I love it though.
[00:30:50] Yeah, that'd be sweet.
[00:30:51] It's one of the reasons like.
[00:30:53] Oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:30:54] Sound people they're a rad especially Rick shout out to Rick Rick is right as sound dude ever.
[00:30:59] Yeah, but like there's other people ask us like if we want to book other places and stuff like that you know maybe like the same size of the pie shop on our kind of always like.
[00:31:11] Have any of you guys ever played a show at a place that did only give you one meal like not one meal for every band member but just share.
[00:31:20] Yeah, do you guys get one?
[00:31:22] Yeah, we had a shit in the Midwest.
[00:31:25] Yeah, we're like, we just won.
[00:31:28] Okay, I guess we'll take it.
[00:31:31] We'll talk about the new EP that you said is coming out.
[00:31:34] Yeah, so we just got done recording it with a boy.
[00:31:39] So we recorded what is we recorded drums at our friend Pedro's.
[00:31:47] Yeah, so we recorded drums over there and we did that sage knock that out in like.
[00:31:54] One take Jake here and like in a couple hours.
[00:31:59] And then all the rest.
[00:32:01] Yeah, he's a piece.
[00:32:05] And then the rest of the instrumentals and vocals and stuff we actually did over at my friends house.
[00:32:11] He built this place a couple years ago and he kind of specifically had the builders make him a studio room so it's all soundproofed and all that kind of cool stuff.
[00:32:22] And he's got his, you know, his board and computer and all that stuff.
[00:32:26] So we recorded over at his house, you know, over the over the weekend.
[00:32:30] You know, all the guitars and bass and vocals backup vocals all that kind of stuff.
[00:32:37] So yeah, we've got what do we got four songs?
[00:32:43] So yeah, we were going to be on a comp. We did a coffin curse is putting out a comp.
[00:32:51] Yeah for no effects. It's called I heard they broke up.
[00:32:55] I think it's going to be 60 songs, three records, three like LP records and like a double-sided CD or something like that.
[00:33:06] The pre-orders are already out right now.
[00:33:08] Yep.
[00:33:09] And the LP, the record is in pretty high demand. I think there's only like 12 or 15 of them left.
[00:33:17] But yeah, we're going to be on that.
[00:33:19] We were going to be releasing what's wrong with you guys doing. I can cut it out if you don't want to make it public.
[00:33:25] No, we can make it public.
[00:33:27] What's that?
[00:33:29] Quarting session.
[00:33:31] Oh, love that song. Oh my god. I love that song.
[00:33:34] Yeah, that's a good one.
[00:33:36] Nice.
[00:33:37] We like we need our own. We didn't want to just like a fucking carbon top cover stuff.
[00:33:43] It has a little scoff layer to it.
[00:33:45] Nice.
[00:33:46] That little fast cart.
[00:33:48] Yeah.
[00:33:49] Yeah, that was pretty. It's pretty rad.
[00:33:53] And we were the only ones to cover that song. I think.
[00:33:57] Yeah, we are.
[00:33:58] Yeah. Nice.
[00:33:59] Are you working with coffin curse on your EP as well?
[00:34:02] Yeah, I just, I know, I know Mike through my wife.
[00:34:06] Like she actually grew up in the West Virginia area for a little bit.
[00:34:12] So she like knows Mike through other bands because he was kind of from that area.
[00:34:16] Small world.
[00:34:17] So yeah, I met him a couple years ago at a stretch Armstrong show down in South Carolina.
[00:34:25] Awesome.
[00:34:26] And I got to talking to him and you know one thing led to another.
[00:34:29] Yeah, I was kind of like a guy who was a little bit of a, you know,
[00:34:32] like a guy who was like a guy who was like a guy who was like a guy who was a good guy.
[00:34:35] So yeah, we mentioned like coffin curse and you know playing down there in Knoxville at some point.
[00:34:40] So yeah, we've had him on the show a couple times.
[00:34:43] Yeah, Mike, Mike's a nice guy.
[00:34:45] He's a good dude.
[00:34:46] Mike's a good dude.
[00:34:48] Shout out.
[00:34:49] So yeah, he had posted about it about doing the comp and looking for bands to do submissions.
[00:34:54] I don't know back in.
[00:34:55] I know it was due by like February.
[00:34:58] Which lined up perfectly with the recording.
[00:35:00] I was like, all right, it might be coming in a little late, but we've got a song and you know.
[00:35:05] So he's got that for us.
[00:35:07] So that's going to be coming out.
[00:35:08] But then like the EP as a whole, you know, we've got three originals.
[00:35:12] We've got the cover that'll be as part of the EP.
[00:35:15] And then we just recorded with a friend of ours at a studio called cabin in the woods.
[00:35:20] And we wrote a song about a Mexican restaurant that we like.
[00:35:23] It's kind of like our watering hole before we go to practice.
[00:35:26] Yes.
[00:35:27] That's going to be like the fifth song on the on the EP.
[00:35:31] We had to hold on and on the release because of the cover.
[00:35:35] We weren't supposed to release anything with that cover on it until like April.
[00:35:40] So we're like, fuck it.
[00:35:41] Let's go record another song.
[00:35:42] So we had this kind of joky song that Ryan wrote in like literally 10 minutes.
[00:35:46] Remones for style about our favorite Mexican play.
[00:35:49] So we're going to we wrote that and we recorded it actually last weekend.
[00:35:56] So that one's going to be on there.
[00:35:58] So it'll be a five song for originals in the cover.
[00:36:02] We're planted sometime in April.
[00:36:04] We have a show on the 30th with the Carolyn and eaten by snakes from Germany.
[00:36:10] So we're probably sort of make that like a release show.
[00:36:15] And 40.
[00:36:16] Oh, yeah.
[00:36:17] Can't forget the homies.
[00:36:18] Come on now.
[00:36:19] You just forgot.
[00:36:20] Well, I was kind of like wait, I thought 40 rest is lamp.
[00:36:23] I want to maybe they back down to the south.
[00:36:25] What are you guys spinning right now?
[00:36:26] Like if you were to jump in your car and go somewhere, what are you listening to?
[00:36:30] Now I'm going to say something sound really vanguarius but like right now I'm riding
[00:36:36] to a lot of worship just because we just got the studio.
[00:36:39] You know, it's that like I shouldn't say that I shouldn't have said that.
[00:36:44] I can't say that you're also wearing a steel boy t-shirt constantly.
[00:36:49] She's constantly.
[00:36:51] You can go again.
[00:36:53] I'm going to hit it.
[00:36:55] Okay, okay.
[00:36:56] Well then circle back around me.
[00:36:58] Okay.
[00:36:59] I like your answer.
[00:37:00] I don't care.
[00:37:01] I like it.
[00:37:02] I like your answer.
[00:37:03] I mean, in our stuff like fresh off the whatever.
[00:37:06] But I'll come back to me.
[00:37:08] It's cool.
[00:37:09] Okay.
[00:37:11] Um lately I've been listening to, um, you know, MXPX just put out a record and I've been loving that thing.
[00:37:19] So I've gotten been kind of playing that on nonstop.
[00:37:23] I didn't know they just put out a record.
[00:37:25] Yeah, they put out a record.
[00:37:27] I mean, I think it's a little late last year.
[00:37:30] I want to say, um, like in November or October or something like that.
[00:37:36] It's really good.
[00:37:37] I've had it.
[00:37:38] I got the CM at furnace fest.
[00:37:41] Last year and me and Ryan actually went and some up and Philly a few weeks ago.
[00:37:47] So that record's really good.
[00:37:49] And then just a lot of old shit.
[00:37:51] It fixes.
[00:37:52] I'll speak for Ryan.
[00:37:53] He sent me a message.
[00:37:54] I'm going to say a lot of Barry Manlo.
[00:37:57] All right, next share.
[00:38:03] Uh, past couple of years, I've just been listening to these guys know this shit.
[00:38:08] I'm listening to nothing but Japanese melodic punk.
[00:38:13] That's it.
[00:38:14] That's all I listen to now because it's that's just it.
[00:38:17] It's the best music in the world.
[00:38:18] I found it.
[00:38:19] That's what it is.
[00:38:20] Name some bands.
[00:38:22] Uh, okay. Yeah.
[00:38:24] Local Frank.
[00:38:25] That's all one word all lower case.
[00:38:27] That's where I got the info for Steelboy to be the same thing.
[00:38:31] Um, there's them.
[00:38:33] There's shank all caps.
[00:38:37] There's four get me a not that's F.O.
[00:38:40] You are.
[00:38:41] Get me a nox.
[00:38:44] The names are bizarre but like holy shit.
[00:38:47] No, I love him.
[00:38:48] Nice.
[00:38:49] Yeah, that's just the main stuff.
[00:38:52] Get me a not that sounds familiar is that I think Matt was that um.
[00:38:59] Was that one of the bands that what does he was playing with when he went to Tokyo or when he went to Japan?
[00:39:05] Oh yeah, grim deeds.
[00:39:06] That sounds right.
[00:39:09] That does it sounds right.
[00:39:11] I don't know where else I would have heard that from but.
[00:39:14] Yeah, I was going to say that's a pretty.
[00:39:16] That's the name you don't really hear too often.
[00:39:19] Yeah.
[00:39:20] Do you buy chance?
[00:39:22] Uh, since we're talking about Japanese bands.
[00:39:24] You buy chance now who maximum the hormone is.
[00:39:27] Oh yeah, do they rule.
[00:39:28] Yeah, they do.
[00:39:29] That's a good band.
[00:39:30] Um, yeah, dude like Japanese ska stuff to like there's a sky band Mason's party.
[00:39:35] Holy shit.
[00:39:36] It's great.
[00:39:37] They somehow fit a blast beat into one of their ska songs and.
[00:39:43] Yeah, that's why I'm not.
[00:39:45] Yeah, who does that they do it's insane.
[00:39:48] Who does that they do?
[00:39:50] Yeah.
[00:39:51] Yeah, no, that's that's really just the main shit that I listened to and then obviously all the usual stuff.
[00:39:56] Let's get Matt knows.
[00:39:58] That will always be like top forever band.
[00:40:03] Let's get.
[00:40:04] Oh yeah.
[00:40:05] Let's see what have I been listen to.
[00:40:07] Today is a lot of the on the on lovable so you guys know that band or like an old one.
[00:40:12] We're mone's core female fronted band.
[00:40:15] Unlovable.
[00:40:16] Yeah, yeah, unlovable.
[00:40:18] Yeah, pretty good.
[00:40:19] See what else I guess bad religion.
[00:40:22] I was going to prove north that album.
[00:40:25] Great out.
[00:40:26] Yeah, it is really good.
[00:40:27] Yeah.
[00:40:28] I guess I guess I did it man.
[00:40:31] Yeah, I kind of hate music.
[00:40:33] So I don't listen to.
[00:40:34] He does.
[00:40:35] Yeah, he.
[00:40:36] That's why he's such a good composer because he can't fucking stand it.
[00:40:41] I got another answer by the way.
[00:40:46] Go for it.
[00:40:47] Yeah, no, well, I was just thinking like I was really happy to get invited to be on a panel for Richmond artists and so they're basically people you would never have heard of from multiple genres like across the board.
[00:41:05] I'm not going to sit in their music or get nominated by somebody.
[00:41:09] Someone who's doing a lot of different genres, which I kind of do because when I write.
[00:41:14] I'd like to you know reference as many different.
[00:41:18] I can't not like it gets a printed way.
[00:41:21] But so listen to like new rappers and new indie artists and like singer songwriters and stuff and that's been kind of cool.
[00:41:31] I think it's a cool good music and rich man.
[00:41:34] That was such a generic answer even say.
[00:41:37] I don't know whether or not like I don't know whether that you hear these things again.
[00:41:42] It's some of them might be a job you wouldn't necessarily listen to, but I guess what I'm saying is like.
[00:41:48] Never know.
[00:41:49] Well, you'll hear these names again.
[00:41:51] Are you cursing these bands to break up?
[00:41:55] I love.
[00:41:56] I'm not optimistic in the band.
[00:41:58] Is that a threat?
[00:42:00] They're all on the on her like a hit list, you know,
[00:42:04] you never get to hear these bands again short list.
[00:42:07] Who are a couple of your favorite hip hop bands?
[00:42:09] Like I'm a Wu Tang freak.
[00:42:11] Oh my god.
[00:42:12] I just bought a Wu Tang like the symbol.
[00:42:16] Yeah, he's a neon lightening up a field.
[00:42:19] Oh, fuck it.
[00:42:20] Yeah, for sure.
[00:42:21] Love that documentary.
[00:42:24] Have you watched the show?
[00:42:25] The TV show about them.
[00:42:26] That was amazing.
[00:42:27] Oh, so
[00:42:28] it's a nice show.
[00:42:29] Good.
[00:42:30] Man, like wanted to watch it again.
[00:42:33] Like I'd never watched it before.
[00:42:34] Yeah, yeah.
[00:42:35] Want to go see a Wu Tang show after watching it because it was that good.
[00:42:39] Yeah.
[00:42:40] Yeah, they were just in DC like last year.
[00:42:43] Last year.
[00:42:44] I had a ticket to go see them and my.
[00:42:48] I was getting a part of a sleeve on my tattoo artist.
[00:42:52] I had a cancel a night in the night that she rescheduled for it was the night of that
[00:42:57] fucking Wu Tang show and I.
[00:42:59] You chose to do that.
[00:43:00] I stole the sold the Wu Tang ticket and.
[00:43:03] I love a tattoo, but I would have made.
[00:43:06] Yeah.
[00:43:07] It was fucking not so playing with them, which he's like the fucking.
[00:43:13] Why did you choose the tattoo?
[00:43:15] Because I wanted to get tattooed man.
[00:43:17] I don't know.
[00:43:18] That's unacceptable answer.
[00:43:23] I know.
[00:43:24] Alright, so we ask these three questions to everybody who comes on the podcast.
[00:43:28] The first question and we'll go to school around is if you were on death row, what would your final meal be?
[00:43:35] Something with a shank isn't it?
[00:43:37] It's not me.
[00:43:38] You're not going to skate.
[00:43:42] We all only eat it if you give me a real fork.
[00:43:47] Damn, let's have a tough question.
[00:43:53] Oh wow, this is the tough one.
[00:43:56] Wait, yes, this is never the top one.
[00:43:59] Is the easiest.
[00:44:00] Yeah.
[00:44:01] Maybe I don't know fucking cheesy being raised burrito from talk about.
[00:44:09] Your fingers are so low.
[00:44:13] Best answer ever.
[00:44:19] That wouldn't be cost in my tax.
[00:44:24] Oh, just one.
[00:44:26] Yeah.
[00:44:27] I don't want to be a constant.
[00:44:29] The tax fair is that much money because it's only like a dollar.
[00:44:33] Put the tax fairies when you're about to be home.
[00:44:37] I'm further like.
[00:44:38] People are some crazy.
[00:44:40] I'm probably.
[00:44:42] Yeah, they're like two.
[00:44:44] See that's more than a dollar.
[00:44:46] Yeah.
[00:44:47] I don't know man.
[00:44:49] Last meal, I might give the cook out fried ochre shot because whatever.
[00:44:53] So I'm going to die anyway.
[00:44:55] Yeah, you get.
[00:44:58] Just we get the okra because you always get two sides so get the fried cheese curds too.
[00:45:02] Because you know, at least if you don't like the okra, the cheese curds will send you out with a bank.
[00:45:06] There you go.
[00:45:07] There you go.
[00:45:08] I was going to be able to work you know.
[00:45:11] I think I know I think I know Chris is answer.
[00:45:14] What's my answer?
[00:45:16] Question.
[00:45:19] I'm going to be able to answer.
[00:45:22] That's great.
[00:45:23] You know, it's funny you say that because we've asked so many people this question.
[00:45:29] It's never been a fucking answer.
[00:45:32] I'm surprised.
[00:45:34] And I'm surprised it's never been an answer because it might be my answer to be honest, but go ahead.
[00:45:43] I don't know as an option.
[00:45:45] I guess it could be.
[00:45:49] I've never had horse.
[00:45:53] Yeah.
[00:45:55] Depends on which guards are working that night.
[00:45:59] I don't know.
[00:46:01] I don't know.
[00:46:02] I don't know.
[00:46:03] I don't know.
[00:46:04] I don't know.
[00:46:05] I don't know.
[00:46:06] I don't know.
[00:46:07] I don't know.
[00:46:08] I don't know.
[00:46:09] I don't know.
[00:46:10] I don't know.
[00:46:11] I don't know.
[00:46:12] I don't know.
[00:46:13] I don't know.
[00:46:14] You feel guard working in prison like.
[00:46:15] Who knows anything could happen.
[00:46:16] That's right.
[00:46:17] All right, so the real answer is.
[00:46:19] The real answer is medium rare New York strip.
[00:46:21] Fuck you.
[00:46:22] Potatoes and bring back one of those 84 ounce beers from Trace Matches.
[00:46:26] Oh, hell yeah.
[00:46:27] Yeah, I always get it medium rare.
[00:46:29] So that's.
[00:46:30] And after my heart, that's awesome.
[00:46:32] Hendren spirits.
[00:46:33] Yeah.
[00:46:34] Yep.
[00:46:35] And you guys are pretty.
[00:46:37] I know you guys have heard of Etsy fades like.
[00:46:45] Yeah, my mom said and it's like hand down like the richest, most delicious.
[00:46:51] That crawfish and shrimp in it.
[00:46:53] It's like.
[00:46:54] Fuck yeah.
[00:46:55] Yeah.
[00:46:56] Yeah.
[00:46:57] Yeah.
[00:46:58] I'm not going to say anything.
[00:46:59] It's like otherworldly side.
[00:47:00] If I had to go out, I'd go out with a band.
[00:47:01] Nice.
[00:47:02] That's good.
[00:47:03] That's good.
[00:47:04] That's a fuck yeah.
[00:47:05] Oh, yeah.
[00:47:06] So this is the actually do this now.
[00:47:07] You could actually if you get creamed.
[00:47:08] If you die and get creamed it, they could take your ashes and form it into a vinyl record.
[00:47:13] So if you were going to have your ashes, eternal lives on an album of your choice.
[00:47:18] Which album would you pick?
[00:47:20] It has to be an album that exists.
[00:47:23] And again, we edit.
[00:47:25] Yeah, so don't worry about it.
[00:47:27] Yeah.
[00:47:28] Don't worry about any of that because this is definitely a tough choice.
[00:47:35] And it's really fun sometimes when people like blurred it out like they've been waiting to answer this question.
[00:47:41] Yeah, the weirdest shit comes out but it's great.
[00:47:45] But mostly this is a tough question.
[00:47:48] Yeah.
[00:47:49] Yeah, this hard.
[00:47:50] That's why I'm not going to go first.
[00:47:52] Come on, dude.
[00:47:53] I thought you'd be chopping at the best.
[00:47:55] My answer is usually Michael Jackson thriller.
[00:47:58] Oh, nice.
[00:47:59] But that's kind of like when I grew up but it changes, you know,
[00:48:04] just to kind of throw that out there.
[00:48:06] We've had all sorts of weird fucking Jake Kylie was the best Matt, right?
[00:48:10] What did he say?
[00:48:11] I think he is personally.
[00:48:14] He was the vinyl version of Miami vice soundtrack from the.
[00:48:22] Yeah.
[00:48:24] And he and that was like blurred it out immediately.
[00:48:27] Yeah, he was dead fucking serious.
[00:48:29] Like he's like he could wait and answer that question his entire fucking life.
[00:48:32] Yeah, he was ready.
[00:48:33] Yeah.
[00:48:34] Man, let's go for this question is insane.
[00:48:37] Like, yeah.
[00:48:38] His answer gave me a my answer which would be the team.
[00:48:43] The movie that soundtrack.
[00:48:46] Fuck yeah, great movie.
[00:48:47] All the songs all the songs who separate the one Beach Boys song are all originals.
[00:48:51] And I've been like trying to find that album.
[00:48:55] To know avail wait there are all originals who was the band.
[00:48:59] Yeah, it's just like I don't know it's all like I think that's right.
[00:49:03] Got some random people just write songs for the session.
[00:49:07] A session band.
[00:49:09] I guess man, I mean this stuff with vocals.
[00:49:12] Yeah, it's weird.
[00:49:14] But yeah, unfortunately I haven't tracked that down so.
[00:49:17] It has to exist somewhere.
[00:49:19] It does exist.
[00:49:21] I remember trying to get Bobby from final conflict to find it for me.
[00:49:28] Like the original team will with Michael J.
[00:49:31] Yeah, with Michael J.
[00:49:33] Yeah.
[00:49:34] Have you ever looked on like discogs or anything?
[00:49:38] I guess I've really tried that hard to find it.
[00:49:40] You not really sleeping all the time.
[00:49:43] I tried hard for like a try hard.
[00:49:46] I tried hard for a month till find it but then I was like,
[00:49:49] and I got better things to do.
[00:49:51] I got out of my mind.
[00:49:52] We don't this.
[00:49:53] This is a dog doesn't always have everything either.
[00:49:56] Right.
[00:49:57] It'll tell you it exists but it doesn't.
[00:49:59] Yeah.
[00:50:00] So that's my answer beat that guys can't be.
[00:50:03] I know that I can't do.
[00:50:05] I know that I can't do.
[00:50:07] I know that I can't do it.
[00:50:09] I know that I can't do it.
[00:50:11] My brain's about to pop like even considering the many.
[00:50:14] Options.
[00:50:15] Well, you know there's nothing funny.
[00:50:17] There's no.
[00:50:18] There's no.
[00:50:19] It can change.
[00:50:20] It can change a week basis.
[00:50:21] I'm going to go with.
[00:50:22] You guys.
[00:50:23] No, you.
[00:50:24] Now I'm going to go within this is and I'm really just piggybacking off
[00:50:29] the whole soundtrack thing but this is.
[00:50:30] It's going to be weird because I don't really listen to music
[00:50:33] but in a certain way I'm going to be talking about.
[00:50:35] I'm going to get tired of you guys, Amina.
[00:50:36] And then we can listen to this song.
[00:50:37] And I have a lot of inside the whole.
[00:50:39] And it's not for the first time.
[00:50:40] It wasn't on.
[00:50:41] Yeah.
[00:50:43] The album.
[00:51:00] And the song I just heard about.
[00:51:01] I feel like the camera wheel and our.
[00:51:02] score is a answer. Cool. Yeah, I mean, I think the follow follow on with the nerdy-ness.
[00:51:12] Here we go. There we go, right? I was going to finalize the day for the channel.
[00:51:18] That's the answer. You got it. So I think it would be like the score of Final Fantasy 7 or Final
[00:51:27] Fantasy 6. I mean, you know, it's my nerdy shit that I grew up with before punk rock. It was,
[00:51:33] I just love like just chill. It's chill music. It's, you know, the piano scores are usually really good,
[00:51:39] but yeah, Final Fantasy, a record of Final Fantasy music. That would be my thing.
[00:51:45] Thanks, sir.
[00:51:47] You asked if you asked my wife what we will drive home to some nights after like
[00:51:53] we've been out at my parents house or whatever. I just put on like the Final Fantasy 7 score
[00:51:58] in piano or whatever and the kids fall asleep and I just drive home and it's just peaceful
[00:52:04] and harmonious and crazy. Yeah, yeah. I'd fall asleep too because it's so boring.
[00:52:13] You're addicted. Let that man have his choice.
[00:52:19] Maybe.
[00:52:20] You know, as soon as the words started coming out of my mouth, I knew I was going to hear it from
[00:52:25] the peanut gallery over there. If there's one thing I've learned being Ryan's friend for the last
[00:52:30] 11 years or so, it's that he will, he knows how to cut you down.
[00:52:36] You need someone like that though. Keep showing you.
[00:52:42] Sage, what you got?
[00:52:44] Uh, shit.
[00:52:47] Yeah, it's a great time.
[00:52:50] If I had to do one, it would, uh, I'm not going to do a score.
[00:52:55] So no, I guess, yeah, I guess I'm the weird one now.
[00:53:00] I'd probably do the album Gish by Smashing Pumpkins.
[00:53:05] Really? Okay.
[00:53:07] I love Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan is a fucking doofus, but like
[00:53:12] I love Smashing Pumpkins.
[00:53:15] That is the album that got me into drums because it's kind of like the same, same deal.
[00:53:20] Like I was listening to a whole bunch of just like Beatles and you know, 80s,
[00:53:24] just whatever else. And then one day my mom comes into my room when I'm like 12 or 13
[00:53:31] and she's like, I see you like tapping around on like everything.
[00:53:37] Seems like you kind of might be in this whole drum situation. We'll figure that out.
[00:53:41] You know, when the time comes, but she had me the CD and she was like,
[00:53:46] check this out though if you like drums. And yeah, first song, I am one.
[00:53:52] I was like, whoa, same, same just thing. I just had so many whoa moments growing up,
[00:53:57] fine and shit like that is like, you can do that too. Holy shit.
[00:54:02] So I mean, yeah, not for Jimmy Chamberlain wouldn't be bland drums.
[00:54:06] That's a great big stage.
[00:54:08] All right. So the third question is who is on your Mount Rushmore of punk rock?
[00:54:11] And you get five people because you get a crazy horse too. So five people, not bands.
[00:54:17] Five people who your Mount Rushmore of punk rock.
[00:54:20] Yeah. Okay. This actually might be the hardest one.
[00:54:23] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It definitely is the hardest one.
[00:54:28] Yeah. Because I'm so hard thinking about all their faces, you know.
[00:54:32] I can tell.
[00:54:33] Well, you say you're so hard. Who said that?
[00:54:43] All right. I guess I'll fucking just try to go just spin it for you real quick here.
[00:54:50] I'll say probably that mic would be on one.
[00:54:55] I think I'd have to say Joey Ramone even though I think D.D. Ramone is probably more worthy
[00:55:01] to be up there, but Joey Ramone's kind of face of the band. So I'd say Joey Ramone.
[00:55:08] And then, um, fuck, I would probably say Milo from descendants.
[00:55:19] And I would say you have five people? Oh my god.
[00:55:22] I can't do it. I already know.
[00:55:25] People exist.
[00:55:27] Yeah. I know.
[00:55:28] There are six people in this, but in this dude me, but I'm just saying I think we're on the
[00:55:34] thing so. Um, and I'd probably say, uh, Billy Joe Armstrong and then, and then Joey Kate
[00:55:41] from Lake Wagon. Cool. I think that would be my five. Yeah. All right. All right. That's four.
[00:55:45] I don't know who cares. That's fine. That's fine. That's fine. That's fine. That's fine. That's fine.
[00:55:48] It's a solid film. Yeah. So I've got three drummers in mind. Um, so Tommy Ramone
[00:55:57] he, he like invented, you know, those original beats. Um, Markey Ramone I think was even better
[00:56:05] about those beats. Um, Bill Stevenson is one of my favorite drummers just watching the man play
[00:56:10] like he's just got a smile on his face and he's just he's playing some crazy shit but he's
[00:56:16] just smiling away like, uh, he makes it look so easy. He makes so easily. And probably easy.
[00:56:22] Um, and then I would say my career from MXPX. Um, and then a fifth. Yeah. Billy Joe.
[00:56:34] Oh yeah, I've been writing them down because I knew I'd
[00:56:38] because I do that. Uh, five people definitely like Bergs had Bill Stevenson. I mean,
[00:56:46] he's just, he's just the man like. Yeah, he is. Yeah. Uh, in high school, I had this little project
[00:56:54] thing. I had to like email something. It was like debate heard some shit and I had to email someone
[00:56:59] and interview them and I was just like, oh, the interview Bill Stevenson, sure, whatever.
[00:57:03] And he got back to me and like answered all my questions. That's awesome.
[00:57:07] Interviewed me and my holy shit. He's the nicest dude on the face of the planet.
[00:57:12] He's like legit. He's so nice. Dream to record at Blasting Room. We got to do that. Like,
[00:57:18] yeah, we should get them next EP. Let's go. Yeah. My band did that. We recorded with,
[00:57:23] we recorded one song of Bill Stevenson and this is what I have to have this pinned on my wall.
[00:57:28] This is um, so it's a, so Bill Stevenson sent us out for burritos one day.
[00:57:34] Oh, this is Bill Stevenson's burrito order.
[00:57:38] It's super burrito white tortilla, no cheese, yes onions, vegetarian,
[00:57:43] yes, I'm in black bean vegetables spicy pico and strawberry habanero sauce.
[00:57:49] He moved that down. He wrote that. I saved it and I fucking pinned it to my wall.
[00:57:53] That's awesome. I love that.
[00:57:55] Yeah. I'd have to say, I'd put Dan Zig up there again. Another dupeist but like,
[00:58:06] he fucking did the thing too. I mean, change the game. I'd put Smelly up there.
[00:58:13] Okay. I would put Chris Hannah up there.
[00:58:17] Singer. Oh, nice. Yeah.
[00:58:21] Probably always forever favorite too. Like they just, you know,
[00:58:26] you really sit down and actually listen and think about them. They will change your perspective.
[00:58:30] Oh, yeah. They're music. They're insane. Those guys are insane musicians.
[00:58:37] I had a friend that doesn't even listen to punk and he was like, I could just read like
[00:58:41] propaganda slyrics and like it's amazing. I even really liked the music but the lyrics are
[00:58:47] so great. Yeah. You can like legit learn things from their lyrics. Yeah.
[00:58:51] Yeah. I literally have, if not like from the song itself but like, oh, what's this thing from
[00:58:59] and I'd look into it as you know from this book or something and I'd you know, read research into
[00:59:03] that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:59:04] Yeah. Yeah.
[00:59:06] Last, I don't know man, it would be a head fusion of our guy on TV from Blitzkid because they are
[00:59:15] one. Nice.
[00:59:21] I love that you love Blitzkid because I'm a huge fan too. That's all right.
[00:59:24] Let's do it. Yeah. I can't wait for whatever day that is. I got to get to the second
[00:59:29] there. I got to do it. Yeah. That's awesome. Yeah. I'll be there VIP of course.
[00:59:34] Fuck yeah. I will spend all of my money at that show.
[00:59:39] All right, y'all. You're on a 5-be session.
[00:59:42] You avoided for long enough. 5-be session.
[00:59:44] Well, since I'm allowed to just like not care about genre or
[00:59:49] so to put it. So I'm thinking of like my favorite voices, like voices I really love.
[00:59:56] I definitely have like a series girl crush on Sia,
[01:00:01] the singer of Waste, but I don't even know if you know, well,
[01:00:03] I feel like everybody should know she is just because she's amazing but
[01:00:06] just the quality of her voice. I always feel like she's thinking there's
[01:00:14] she's going to leave nothing on the floor when she's done, like
[01:00:17] pushing down all of the things that you think there's
[01:00:22] say Robert Smith because that cure informed my childhood really
[01:00:31] Ryan's not the like this but
[01:00:35] so big nice
[01:00:45] Prince for sure because you have best voice, but he had like an amazing voice.
[01:00:52] I'm not a retainer ever. Oh for sure. Yeah.
[01:00:56] Yeah.
[01:00:57] Incomparable maybe yeah and maybe maybe writer too. Yeah. Yeah.
[01:01:01] Yeah, man. You can write some songs.
[01:01:04] He was a high-end fan. Yeah.
[01:01:06] I definitely look up to him as a songwriter for sure.
[01:01:10] And um
[01:01:12] just wait this wise like it's probably going to be lame too but
[01:01:18] Robert playing it like nice. I love that one.
[01:01:21] Ryan hates that answer too but I love that one.
[01:01:24] Yeah. I'm not a jet head. Ryan hates a lot so like it's cool. You can't
[01:01:30] say much without him hating something. He said hey, I don't hate that because you're right.
[01:01:37] Look at that. No Freddie Mercury for voice huh?
[01:01:41] Oh shit. I didn't even think of Freddie Mercury and that's like
[01:01:44] oh my god. I think he has the greatest voice in all of Rockwell. Oh my god.
[01:01:47] I'm a big fan. Yeah. I would agree. I would agree with that.
[01:01:51] Queen is yeah. Yeah.
[01:01:53] Yeah, Freddie Mercury is a fucking alien like his vocals are fucking
[01:01:57] the range. Oh yeah. Oh my god. Yeah.
[01:01:59] But did he attribute it to some like the formation of his like jars or
[01:02:04] his teeth? Yeah. He's got a weird thing with his
[01:02:09] either his jaw or his teeth. Yeah.
[01:02:12] Yeah and it actually helped out his something like right.
[01:02:16] Yeah. Yeah.
[01:02:17] The nominal voice. So fucking good. Yeah.
[01:02:20] An arrangement and songwriting like.
[01:02:23] Yeah. And entertainer just like him.
[01:02:26] Oh, fuck it. I'm just saying.
[01:02:28] This is fucking unbeatable.
[01:02:31] All right so why don't you guys tell us where we can where everybody could find you online?
[01:02:34] Instagram.
[01:02:37] I don't know. What's the handle?
[01:02:40] Y'all done. Still boy. Still boy.
[01:02:47] We have a we have a Facebook do but
[01:02:53] the book is toast.
[01:02:54] Tucker broke in suck it. Yeah.
[01:02:56] So the brand is worth a fine.
[01:02:58] Not to get the grand. Yeah.
[01:02:59] The grand for sure.
[01:03:02] Two things to remember from this episode is that
[01:03:04] still boy likes their own shit and Chris is last meal is pussy so
[01:03:13] if you've learned nothing else.
[01:03:15] Yeah.
[01:03:16] Didn't you guys want to play a song too?
[01:03:17] Oh yeah, yeah.
[01:03:18] But we're going to I think we're going to premiere the song called
[01:03:22] V for vendetta. I wanted it to be called V for velvita but
[01:03:27] got featured on that one. Yeah.
[01:03:30] I don't remember vetoing that.
[01:03:33] Hey there's still time. It's not out yet.
[01:03:35] All right. You're all changing it.
[01:03:38] It's going to be the first track on the new on the new EP
[01:03:42] and we all really like it. I still really like it so I think
[01:03:45] that's a testament to the song.
[01:03:47] Yeah, and it's longer than week two.
[01:03:48] It's been a week.
[01:03:49] Yeah.
[01:03:49] It's been a week. He's still like.
[01:03:51] It's just a honeymoon I'm sure but that's that's fine.
[01:03:53] The.
[01:03:54] I'm not I'm not really sure what it's about because I didn't write the lyrics
[01:03:57] so what's it going to tell us what that's about?
[01:04:00] I think it's about like not to be corny but like
[01:04:05] rising from the ashes of a messed up relationship
[01:04:08] and the revenge is not necessarily even a fuck you but like I'm better than I was
[01:04:14] before.
[01:05:09] Oh
[01:05:26] he's
[01:05:38] I found my way back to me
[01:05:43] I found it found my way
[01:05:46] Everything shooting up
[01:05:48] I found my way back to you
[01:05:54] She played you like a cat
[01:05:56] But when it just flew in the rain
[01:05:59] And that you're looking like the lady
[01:06:02] I can't help but tell my ghost
[01:06:05] I can't help but tell my ghost
[01:06:08] I found my way back to you
[01:06:11] Baby, call the baby
[01:06:14] Call my way back
[01:06:15] Trust me
[01:06:16] Baby
[01:06:18] We're danger
[01:06:20] We're closer
[01:06:23] More than mine
[01:06:24] Call my beat up
[01:06:27] It's better, better
[01:06:30] We're feeling like we're love again
[01:06:32] Call your name now
[01:06:34] We'll give you an initial call out
[01:06:37] You're prevention dead
[01:06:39] It's always so easy
[01:06:42] Revenge is always so easy
[01:06:46] Revenge is always so easy
[01:06:51] Call your name now
[01:06:53] We'll give you an initial call out
[01:07:00] Awesome
[01:07:01] That's the only song that we've ever played
[01:07:04] We've got to introduce
[01:07:07] We're doing bodies too
[01:07:09] We can have another one
[01:07:11] Totally can play another one
[01:07:14] You can do bodies
[01:07:16] That's a serial killer
[01:07:19] It's body
[01:07:21] It's actually a girl who is a heartbreaker
[01:07:29] I know but I think the first time you heard it
[01:07:32] You've done it about a serial killer for real
[01:07:36] I'm a true killer
[01:07:38] Yeah, you did
[01:07:39] I remember saying that
[01:07:41] It's called bodies in the basement
[01:07:44] That's not a far off assumption
[01:08:00] I'm a look at your name, Joe
[01:08:02] But got things on my head, low
[01:08:05] I got it going dead
[01:08:08] Whoa, maybe that you
[01:08:10] Are used to look at chainsaw
[01:08:13] I carry it to your boil
[01:08:16] Next thing you know
[01:08:18] I drive a cold neck through your heart
[01:08:21] More than it's bad
[01:08:24] And you get
[01:08:28] I'm a tattoo and I get you
[01:08:30] I'm a real off breaker
[01:08:32] I got a closet
[01:08:34] Oh, I'll scale it down
[01:08:39] I'm a little girl in the teeth
[01:08:41] Got bodies in the basement
[01:08:43] I got a closet full of skeletons
[01:08:48] I got a closet full of skeletons
[01:08:54] Pour your head
[01:08:56] And it's you like a hammer
[01:08:59] Sorry, I'm proud of you
[01:09:01] I got to hurt you anyway
[01:09:08] We all got bodies in the basement

[01:09:31] bodies in the basement
[01:09:33] Got a closet full of skeletons
[01:09:36] bodies in the basement
[01:09:39] We all, we all
